Trading iPhone 6 for iPhone 5s. As simple as swapping sim cards?
I have an AT&T-locked iPhone 6 that I will be trading with a neighbor who has an AT&T-locked iPhone 5s.
Not sure we can do this by ourselves, or if we need to go into an AT&T retail store to have done. Anyone know? I'm wondering if it's as simple as backing up our phones, swapping sim cards, restoring our phones from the backup, turn on and use. Or If we then need to go to an AT&T store and active the sim card to the new phone? |

Pretty sure each phone is activated to each SIM card so you would have to get your phones reactivated. I know that this was the case for the original and the 3GS and I doubt that apple has changed it

Possibly. I haven't seen the phone yet, so if it's in bad condition, I'd be interested. I'm looking specifically for a white/silver, 64gb 5s though |

When I upgraded I was told you need a new sim to use apple pay. You can swap them and everything else will work except for that though. There is some confusion though per this link if that's true or not. Any reason you don't want a new sim?

Thanks for that link. I'm actually downgrading to the 5s, so I won't have apply pay regardless. I did read somewhere that my neighbor who will be upgrading may not be able to use apple pay with their existing sim card. I'll mention this to him. Thanks for the tip.
As far as wanting or not wanting a new sim, it's more convenience than not wanting a new sim. Trying to avoid a trip to the store, that's all, if I can do this at home. If need be, I'll go into a store and get a new sim if needed. Are there benefits to getting a new sim? |

No need for new sims, you don't even have to call at&t. Just switch your SIM cards and you're good to go. As soon as you do that, AT&T knows which phone you're using and it updates the IMEI in their system. As far as apple pay, you don't need a new SIM card for it to work LOL.
If you have any other questions, feel free to ask me. I've been working in the cell phone industry for almost a decade. |
