Downsides to Aftermarket Brakes?
Ok, we all know the benefits of adding aftermarket brake sets, but what are the downsides? I'm under the impression our brakes have senors and what not attached to them, so what do we give up when we go with Brembos and what not?

With the stock brakes, I don't feel the necessity to keep the calipers spotless. With a BBK, you have one more item to ensure is cleaned well to make sure the caliper paint shows well. I'm just too lazy for all of that.

Are you asking if there is any loss of functionality to any OEM sensors/ABS features? Good question. Other questions I would ask:
Is the proper brake bias retained? Is cold braking as good as stock? Is wet braking as good as stock? How well does the car brake at the threshold limit? How is pedal feel and is braking response easy to modulate? |

With Brembo, which we sell
Proper brake bias is maintained within the OEM recommended specs. Cold braking is still as good as stock (of course it varies with the pad you want, but we can get you set up with the correct pad for your specific uses). Wet braking will probably be better than stock, due to the designs of the rotors that are supplied with the BBKs. Brake pedal modulation is very important, so that's why they have taken this deeply into consideration. Brake pedal travel/modulation will most likely only get better, with a larger area/range of control. -Don |

Dinan seems to make a point to mention that the stock pad wear sensors work with their BBK's. I don't think that's the case with many other setups.
Vendors please correct me if I'm wrong |

I was told that if the sensor is removed you will loose: Pad wear indicator, Start-off Assistant, and Brake Drying capabilities

good to know...so which sensor detects the amount of pressure to apply to the rotors to dry off the brakes without "braking" ?

cn555ic, that all depends on what brake pad you put on the BBK..that is not necessarily true.

the dsc unit sees how fast your wipers are moving to calculate the brake drying then applys the brakes lightly to take the rain away.
start off assist uses a longitudial sensor to see if youre are at a slope. then apples the rear brakes via dsc unit for 2 seconds to help you on your way.

BMW might deny you free brake pads.

They will definitely deny you free brake pads on the end of the car with the BBK...but they will still usually cover the rear brake pads if the rear brakes are still stock (but you could have a cross drilled/slotted same size rotor)

Knowing the dealers down here, they would deny me for my "brake pad sensor" issues I been having. I've had 3 now, so excuse me for being hesitant upgrading my brakes.
