Can Dealer See JB4 on Map 0?

So reading through many many threads all over the interweb, Map 0 is supposed to completely disable the JB4...

I guess I am curious if a BMW dealer were to hook-up their diagnostic computer would they be able to see that the JB4 was present even if it's in Map 0?

I'm not trying to defraud a dealer (although I'm sure most of us would love to considering the ludicrous prices they charge for everything) I'm just curious if the JB4 acts as a pass through for the car's computer when in Map 0 and doesn't alter ANYTHING [other than the interface]...

Due to its nature as a piggyback solution, I'm going to go with 'invisible', but that's just a guess.

When in map 0, the only way the dealer would notice is if they were familiar with JB4 and activated it with your steering wheel controls (not likely unless you have a JB4 sticker somewhere on your car) or if the opened the DME box.

On map0 the JB4 is what we call diagnostically invisible. When hooked up to BMWs system its in pass through mode so they can't see.

Saying that the unit is still PHYSICALLY there so it can be seen if the techs look into the ECU compartment which they would likely never do.

FWIW, I'm sure the majority of techs know how to enter the JB4 steering wheel menu. When in doubt, take it out, but that's really only the case of you're trying to get something serious covered under warranty IMO.

You can always disable the steering wheel controls through the interface. I think it used to be Future Use D = 1 but that may have changed.

Personally I would take it out. I always took mine out for service. It doesn't take long at all once you do it a few times.

And they have been known to open up the DME box to take a look to see if there is a piggyback there…

As others said, JB4 map 0 is a pass through but if the dealer wants to start sniffing around they can physically look for unit and/or try to play with features most common with JB4. Most dealers know about these tunes by now, in fact my dealer used to encourage me to get a tune.

It's best to take it out if you are getting serious warranty work done. If you are going in for an oil change or brakes then just set it to map 0.

When in doubt, take it out.

Even though they cannot see and there is no reason for them to open to ECU box, i would take 30 - 45 minutes to remove it before my visit.
