Sorry lol i thought i posted on AV forums about this thread.
Ethernet is the way to go, lesser cctv systems with 700tvl,800, 950tvl etc do not run at 720p (1280tvl technically). with Ethernet the power and data signal go through the same cable so you don't need to provide a power source and a coax cable from the camera. Ethernet cables are also better if you know how to crimp because you can get them through small holes and put the connectors on later. Obviously the kit comes with ethernet cable ready to plug in so you dont need to crimp if you dont want to. For the price I don't think you can get better. All you will need is a 3.5inch drive 500gb, 1tb depending on what you wish. A lot of people have them laying around. Future CCTV cameras and systems will use ethernet so you can upgrade to 4k cameras in 5 years time. |

I've heard good things about Dropcam... It's cloud-based and you can scare the crap out of whoever is messing with your car with a mic and speaker, and features smart alert, which will notify you whenever it detects motion, plus it auto-compresses footage into a timelapse for easier reviewing. The only catch? There's a subscription fee, and if you intend to use it outdoors you'd need a 3rd party enclosure.

I've looked into this since having my M3 nicked off my drive in November. Not sorted it yet but been recommended the new TurboHD camera's. I'm likely going to one mounted under the eves at the front and another at the bad. Connected by Ethernet to a 'unit' of some description kept in the loft. I'll just access the footage if I need so by viewing it on my iPad/laptop - not quite worked out how to do this but I know it's easily sorted. Benefit of camera's in the eve and the unit in the loft is really minimal and simple cabling.
This gear was recommended... https://www.jmcsecure.co.uk/proddeta...FSrMtAodw2AACQ ...with any old sizeable recorder. I originally wanted the camera's lower but as the front of my house is rendered I didn't want cabling everywhere so settle with the hope the presence of the camera is deterrent enough.
