Coilovers on my 335xi (and wheel/tire combos)?
So I recently made the switch from Audi and picked up an '08 335xi. Needless to say, I'm pumped! ... but who wouldn't be?
I'm looking into coilovers right now, or at the very least new springs. And of course, some 19"s of which have yet to be determined (so far Breytons are in the lead). Naturally, my biggest concern is rubbing. So I'm lookin for your current setups and success/horror stories. The main questions: 1.) Suspension brand/model? 2.) Drop achieved? 3.) How wide of tires can you go on 19x8.5s (or 9.5s for that matter) before rubbing? 4.) Fender rolling? 5.) Spacers/Offset? ... and anything else you can think of. There isn't much out there for the 335CXI. Lowering Springs on the current suspension for the XI wouldn't be the best use of your money. Spring/Shock combo or coilovers are the only way to go. Right now KW v3 are the only ones available. There are rumours that anti-sway bars are in the works.

for rims go and look for the 2004 19" M3 GTR rims they come black and they are good on the E90s im picking up a set for myself. and for suspension yeah KW is good but also add sway bars and strut bars to increase handling.. even though the stock XI handling is pretty good already..

Yeah, I realize that there's no universal formula for getting the perfect ride cuz there's so much variation between setups. I guess that's why I was curious to find out what specific setups have (or have not) worked for xi owners.
@ Bimmbo... what tire/wheel combo are you running (sizes too), and how much did you drop the front and rear? For my own edification, what is the difference between the (sport) suspension on 330's and 335's (and, furthermore, on 335xi's if you know)? I'll do some more sleuthing to see what info I can dig up and bring it back here for you guys to confirm/refute. Thanks for the tips so far. Def helpful! |

Where'd you pick up the wheels from? How much? I'll be honest, I'm lookin for something like a 17 spoke in either a graphite or powder coated. But as long as the shape is right, I'll just paint them myself. Eitherway, I'd like to get a matte finish. |

Yes the only official coilover for the xi is the KW v3 for it, we have it available here: http://www.**********s.com/product.a...d=KW_E90-92_PR As to sway bars, some people already know but I've got a company trying to develop some for the xi guys As to wheel fitment - typically for an All-wheel drive (AWD) vehicle non-staggered is the recommended size. However BMW has opted to go the staggered route and thats perfectly fine as well its just not the traditional route. You can go the staggered method like 19x8.5 ET38 and a 19x9.5 ET33 (that will be the best possible fitment that we came up with for an E92 so that its pushed out to the fender without any rubbing.) We released a set in our M6 wheels for it in an ET33. Let me know if you have any other questions we can help you out. |

Hey Ron whats up....i was also interested in the v3 for the xi.....but on your website only the coupe is offered. Is there a set available for a 2008 335xi sedan. If so let me know which one and how much. Its manny by the way i ordered the 19" V715s a couple of weeks ago from you and i just recieved them.....they llook great. I plan on 235/35, 275/30 michilen sp2s for the 19X8.5, 19X9.5 rims if any xi guys wanna know..i hear that this fitment is a better accuracy of front to rear diameter size for the xdrive ssytem and wider is better so why not....lata

Glad you like the wheels!! Post some pics up in the wheel & tire section. yes the 235 and the 275 is what you'd want to put on that x-drive I've fixed the product listing on our site. It fits both sedan and coupe they are the same. Let me know when you are ready to order it. |
