BMWhat help

Looking for some advice on getting this app to work.

I've got an 08 pre-lci 335xi and an 08 X3. I've tried connecting both via bluetooth as well as through the bmwhat cable with an OTG adaptor. I've used 2 different samsung galaxy s3's and a galaxy note 2014 tablet.

I'm sure to change the vehicle setting to the proper vehicle when testing. In all possible configurations I get the green check mark in the upper right hand corner and it says connected.

I don't get the "parameters" option because it says it's not a motor available. When I hit "check compatibility" for coding I get "Number of compatible ECUs: 0". When I run an engine diagnostic I get "Number of ECUs answered: 0".

I've tried doing it with the vehicles off and vehicles on. I've turned the vehicles on to wake the ecu's then back off again and tried. I've tried the phones in normal mode as well as USB debugging mode. I've tried rebooting the phones as well.

I'm out of ideas on what to try here. Is it possible that neither of my BMW's are compatible with this app through both bluetooth and cable?

OP _What BT adapter do you have?
Third party ones don't work well.

I had the bmwhat adaptor. When it didn't work and I read about pre lci needing the cable I sold it and ordered the cable. It didn't work either so I emailed support with the log and he guaranteed blue tooth will work so I re ordered another bmwhat bt adaptor. So this time I'll keep both and troubleshoot with both on hand

Pre-LCI doesn't need a cable.
I have a 03/08 335i no issues.
Able to code everything the app supports using the BMWhat BT Adapter and paid version of the app.

for those with connection problems - try the 'alternate connection' in the settings menu

I cant code with BT Pre LCIe90 07.

All I can do is read diag and clear SES lights.

All of the parameters are not correct like it says oil temp is over 7000F. Junk app IMO for $54.

Something you guys need to realize is that the actual BMW true designation for Pre-LCI & LCI for the E9x series are quite different than what BMWhat calls Pre-LCI & LCI
  • BMWhat considers Pre-LCI any E9x car with Build Date BEFORE 03/2007
  • BMWhat considers LCI E9x car with Build Date AFTER 03/2007

And even after that they state it can vary depending on BMW model.

So when buying adapters, take this in to account. You have to use the BMWhat definition of Pre-LCI & LCI. IDK why they decided to call them the same thing because it only confuses people...

> You can also send email to BMWhat at following link with your info & their recommendation as to which to use - they answer emails same day as you send.

http://www.ivini-apps.com/contact.html

> Your Build Date can be found on the label affixed to the inside front DS door frame.

Here are the BMWhat charts for both Android & iPhone showing which BT or Cable Adapter is necessary:

They finally got back to me. Basically they are saying it works with some 07's past march, and some and some it does not work. Now i am fighting with them to pay for shipping to send the bluetooth back and send me a cable.
