I would think that it would be covered, provided that the tabs weren't broken off using a non recommended way of installing the seat. Although I can't see how all 4 tabs can break off simultaneously. I don't have kids, and have never installed a car seat, so I don't know what the recommended procedure is.

What tabs? I guess I didn't use LATCH when I did it. Definitely see if warranty will cover. Once my ex-g/f told me she was putting a sticker on the license plate, and it just ripped in half. I was thinking huhnnh? It simply ripped in half on its own....she was yelling and screaming at somebody at DMV. Maybe I'm lucky I didn't end up with that girl!

poss. warranty issue

these are little black tab doors covering the metal posts that hold the baby seat in place. Installation of a child seat was never demonstrated to me, so I assumed these black coverings were to be pulled outward to gain access. Apparently I was wrong, they are supposed to act like little trap door and be pushed inward.

For a new car, there is always (something) Company Goodwill that will do repair, on minor damage I suppose.

Hmmm - abuse, negilgence and neglect aren't covered by warranty - I'd be real nice and call myself an idiot etc. and hope they replace them on a purely customer service basis.

BTW - the hood opens like a trap door too - don't go ripping that off the hinges

The little LATCH tabs will snap right back in if you pop them off. Try that first.

As an aside, I've heard that those without folding rear seats don't have those little tabs. So for those who are reading who don't know what we're talking about, you don't have them if you don't have folding rear seats.

Another comment - they aren't supposed to be "pushed inward." They flip out and up. You probably did it right. They pop off easy enough, too, and you probably just flipped it up past the resistance point and popped them off.

I suspect they are designed to pop off for those who want to remove them completely (maybe they're in the way of some child seats). As I said above, they snap off and on easily enough.

ok

actually, three of four have come off. Two of those are physically cracked at the corner. Hopefully it won't be an issue to have the dealer replace these under warranty, I just got the car yesterday. The salesman didn't go over much, just turned the car over to me after demonstrating the lights/wipers/ignition.

Bingo- some car seats (like mine) have LATCH connectors that require you to remove the "trap door" completely. It's actually usually a bigger problem when you're trying to un-LATCH the seat than when you're trying to install it.

Like everyone else has said, they pop right off, and they pop right back on.
