UK 6FL Option

I've ordered this with my new car and I've been reading through the official 6FL thread (well most of it, it goes on a bit). In order to get the full integration with an ipod, you need a special Y cable. There seems to be some confusion if that's included in the price, or if you have to order and pay for it separately.

Anyone here in the UK got 6FL, did you get the cable?

I think the official BMW UK line is that it's £40 extra. You need to order it with the car and if you don't want to pay for it negotiate it into the price.

Seems pretty cheap considering that they include it in the option price in the US, but that's the way it seems to be.

It is a really great bit of kit though. It was fitted in the car I test drive on Monday and I really loved it. Full 'clickwheel' style navigation of everything on my 80gig ipod through i-drive. Very cool.

Ahhh I thought as much, I don't mind paying, I just wanted to make sure, I'll get my dealer to order it for me, I didn't want my car to turn up and then find I had to wait weeks for the cable.

Glad to hear that it works well NFS

The dealer assured me that it would be in the car on delivery.

Imagine my [lack of] surprise when he opened the glovebox and waved a 6" standard usb cable in my face.

For my own personal amusement, I produced my iPod and asked him to connect it up and demo the system.

Full credit to the guy, he did try for a few minutes before admitting defeat.

A trip to the parts department (and £40 later) I was all set up and ready to go.

All in all, £40 for the caberet performance was probably reasonable value.

you need to order the following part number

61 12 0 422 099

note Mine still does not charge the 160gb ipod properly.

I think this is because when the car is turned off, the iPod is not disconnecting properly and then runs flat.

Anyone know if they finally resolved this? I have the small connector block on the y cable so it is the latest version as far as i Know

It charged my 80gig ipod OK.

Maybe you just have too many gigs.

Interesting ... Have you checked which software version your ipods are running.

I assume the 160 is the newer version ?

Any setting on the ipod that you can use to get it to sleep? I haven't used the classic interface. Could be that's its too new and it'll get fixed at a later rev.

That is exactly what my dealer said....."don't worry Mr peterg1965, the cable is included and comes with the car". Yeah right, it was the USB to USB cable, no use whatsoever. The proper jobbie is £39.95, charging my iPod video fine.

i got mine free :P 40quid for a bit of cable is a farce!

yeh the iPod classics dont charge (ive got the 80gb btw)!!! it really annoys me, its a pain in the ass to disconnect the ipod everytime i get out for the car for work and then in the process it freezes and wont turn off til u reset the damn thing. either way i get back in the car after work and the ipod is dead and therefore no frickin music so i have to leave a usb stick in there for backup

ps i have updated everything, incl idrive progman as of 2 weeks ago

Anyone know if the Touch is OK if the classic does not work?

I have a 5 G video for the car at the moment, but was planning on using my touch and selling the 5G to a mate - if the Touch does not work I'll keep the 5G (although mate will be disappointed)

The iPhone works fine - the touch should also as they share similar firmware

(Virtually the same bar the phone bit!)

Of course you only get the clickwheel style if you have Nav/iDrive. I don't so the interface is a little more primitive but its still a great piece of kit.

I have no problems with my 5G Ipod video. It charges the ipod and automatically switches it off so doesn't drain the battery. I don't think I have latest cable either as I bought it off ebay.

I had read that the 07/02 progman should fix the ipod classic issue.

I'm about to buy a 160gb unit as well (specifically for the car), so would be very interested to know if anyone in the uK has got it working.

thanks
Bren

i had the update and did jack all for me. however i suspect that they didnt do anything apart from wash the car badly and leave a few hairline scatches in the process. sum1 kindly mentioned to ask for the service sheet to check the progman number but i havent done so

either way if they havent done it they prob dont have the latest progman as the service guy said they only had the 01 version from the outset (i did mention there was a newer version out to him). when i called back a day later and told him it still doesnt work correctly he told me they had put on the version i was telling him about and said my ipod was faulty :S
