Replacing zf6 with zf8
Hi gents
I really like the n52, very free revving etc. plans are for headers and a few replacement items like disa valves, coils, solenoids etc. I reckon I'll keep my car for some time, kids trash it, I park it on the street, rack up heaps of Kms in it too. I'm just not sure about FI on bmw engines ya know?! This is the highest evolution of bmw's Classic six and I like to keep it that way. I got to thinking about what would be cool to upgrade on it. An lsd would be cool and other things mentioned here on forums, but one thing I think would really improve this car is a snappier gearbox...how about replacing the zf 6 with the zf 8? Or even a dct? Will this just be a nightmare with the ecu? You folks out there are pretty cluey so I'm just gonna put it out there - |

didnt someone do a tranny swap that did the LS swap? Christ a tranny swap seems like hell.
pfitz: I was thinking of selling my car until I did the header swap. Needless to say Im keeping it. I would do the header + tune + some sort of exhaust and see how you like it.

It's technically possible, since the 2011 X3 28i and 528i had the n52 paired with a ZF 8 speed auto. Though it would be a major PITA to get the electronics working.

the transmission is controlled electronically and it ties in with the DME and likely DSC systems. Maybe you could use the computers out of the above mentioned cars but this will not be a simple project.
