Replace coils with spark plugs?
Did a few pulls with my new e-tune and got a CEL. No reduced power message but idle was very rough.
I have about 39,700 miles. Do you think it's wise to replace the coil packs along with the spark plugs?

I would do it all at once why not its cheap and it is good maintenence. If not you will have to deal with same issue on another cylinder at any point in the near future.

ECS, Turner, etc. I think I ended up buying coils from Amazon last time heh.
For reference, I do plugs every 10K, coils every 20K. It's overkill but the single turbo cars tend to blow through plugs quickly.

I was on the ECS tuning website. There's one complete set for $417 that is OEM BMW labeled and one for $317 that is Bosch. Any difference between the two of them besides the $100 difference?

I always buy 6+1 so that way I have a fresh coil for testing if/when inevitable misfires turn up.

Replace all 6 plugs, I wouldn't replace the coils unless I knew they were old/high mileage, or determined faulty. Move the coil from the missing cylinder if it continues to misfire after plugs and see if the misfire follows it, then replace that coil.

Doesn't necessarily mean they're bad, but I have about the same mileage/time as you without any issues on the coils, however everyone's car is different. To play it safe you could buy the coils, but I wouldn't say you HAVE to unless they're a problem.

Coils are usually good for 100k if you do not track the car. If you track it, probably around 50k.
Plugs on an N54 need to be replaced every 45k for a daily driver. If you track it, probably 25k. Make sure you look into using some dialectic grease for the coils. |

So the car sounds like a damn diesel truck when it's started. lol. Would it be safe to drive it like that to the shop?
I downgraded to the stage 2 drive map and car threw the following codes...previously I had a PTF map P29D0 P30A3 P29CD P29CC

the Bosch ones are from some dude in California, came in no box, all 6 coils in one bag, inside a postage bag, inside another postage bag. Looked like he just found 6 bosch used coils laying around his garage and shipped them. they were covered in dust so I returned those. The DELFI all came in separate boxes in sealed bubble wrap bags. You take your choice.....
