Terrible driving conditions in Vancouver today

Just a little bit of snow and temperatures around 0 today = terrible road conditions. Even with snow tires, my 330 couldn't make it up one hill, and I slid into the curb going around a turning circle at about 5 km/h and scraped a wheel. The side roads are literally sheet ice with a dusting of snow.

I guess I never realized what a difference gritting the roads makes in Calgary.

Ya it was brutal out here today too. I went down to Blaine/Lyden, WA this morning to get my friend some snow tries and luckily we were down and back before it got really bad, it was just crazy out there. Apparently cars were in the ditch on the highway and all over the place. Stay home if you don't have snow's just not worth it for you or your car.

Yeah...I have Dunlop Wintersport 3Ds. Had to struggle to get up even a slight hill today. A Civic ahead of me was absolutely hopeless...even a truck (which I believe had 4x4) had some difficulty going up the hill.

I eventually was able to get up the hill...but had to use the traction control...it was lighting up like a Christmas light limiting wheelspin.

Definitely bad. I had to go out for a short trip and it was not fun.

I found the traction control pretty useless...as it was in my E46. I found that it was better to turn it off when negotiating the side roads. Any of you guys find it was any benefit?

I engaged DTC but, yes, full traction control just cut power completely all the time so I couldn't get moving.

I think for normal snow driving you need to turn off traction control (which I normally do). But if you are going up hills, I believe you need to turn traction control back on.

If your wheels spin too fast, they will lose grip going uphill. The traction control limits the wheelspin to ensure you get enough traction to go up hill. On flat streets this is not necessary as it just brakes/slows you down.

Absolutely loving my Bridgestone LM-25's

Out and about during the day and even all the way out to Ladner & Tsawwassen tonight - passed everything in front of me, up and down hills,... the car handles like it's on rails. Of course, I wasn't going very fast, in fact, I was going pretty slow, but everyone around me was going slower.

Staying safe now though; car's parked and staying there for a few days while we ride this sillyness out.

Word.

Even with winter tires, I have the car in the garage since Friday night. I wait until Monday's rain before I venture out with the car.

Correction. Mine is M3, not 3D.

I think my "small" street got more than 2" snow unplowed. It was pretty good.

I had a blast with M3's on.. no problems whatsoever on the hills of the North Shore... had to switch between DSC and DTC in some cases but had no problems at all with grip or braking over here.
