Took it in to mr transmission, transmission fluid level is Ok.
Asked him to do a transmission adaptation reset, surge from 2nd to 3rd is gone after reset. Will drive for a few days to see if transmission will adapt. |

My 2008 335i sedan with 84k miles does something similar. Gear warning light but the transmission goes into neutral. Only way to get back in gear is stop and power cycle.

ZF transmission is expensive but their customer service is top notch. Spoke to their tech desk and found out that the bushing is the main culprit.
Suggested talking to Ericson Industry and they have a bushing kit for $85, a seal/gasket kit for $216, and the pan/filter for $104 (all in us$). They suspect that the bushing failed because European Union restricted the use of lead in product therefore the original bushing was not 100 metallic, where by these new aftermarket bushing are 100% metal thus more durable.
