One Time Use Bolts - Rear Suspension
I have my entire rear subframe dropped and everything pulled out. I started with a 330i AT diff swap, which then lead to doing the rear sub-frame bushings. One thing lead to another and now everthing is pulled off to have the rust removed and refinished. I understand the aluminum torque to yeild bolts must be replaced but do I really need to replace ALL of the bolts and nuts from the suspension and driveline components? The bentley manual says I do. Looking at the specified torque ratings most don't list the torque to yield angle, only torque. Pricing everything up is getting expensive as there are alot of bolts and nuts that need replacing (5 link suspension with 2 pivot points per link and you get the picture!).

Their defiantly not aluminum, trust me I've done plenty of E9x sub frame front n rear. Their steel. No you don't have to replace any of the bolts. Can you, sure its your car but theirs no real benefit IMO

Some of the nuts are considered one time use because the threads stretch when torqued to lock them in place. In lieu of replacing them, you could also use Loc-tite RED.
None of those bolts are torque to yield. |

Curious I did end up going around to all the bolts for the control arms, drive shaft bolts, etc and ALL stuck to the magnet. This just saved me alot of cash. I did an honest takeoff of all bolts BENTLEY recommended and using ECS pricing it would have cost me about $220 USD!

No. As long as they're not rusted out, you really don't need to replace them.
