Welcome to the internet? Why is everyone flipping out? Is there new news? b/c if the car isn't for sale, then nothing has changed other than it's another Supra concept we're all patiently waiting for since 1998, if you discount the unobtainable LFA.
I saw it at pebble beach last year, around the same time other media picked it up, so I can confirm, this is real life: http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1...-concept-video http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...t=toyota+supra

This article acts as a "in case you missed it".
Otherwise, this is barely news. Nothing has changed, the car is still in the "concept" phase of development. The design remains unaltered & powerplant remains where we left off, some sort of BMW & Toyota collaboration. During summer of last year the FT-1 showed up at Cars & Coffee Irvine. Gathered quite a crowd, too. Definitely grabbed much attention (as a concept car should), but I'd hesitate to call it beautiful. Its safe to say much of the hype that day was generated by the FR-S guys, who decided to caravan and park in the main area Everyone was excited to hear it as they gathered around, only to be let down by absolute silence. The car came and went without any noise. The powerplant is probably still in the works and/or not finalized so they did what they can to conceal any giveaways sound clues. No idle noise either; i wouldn't be surprised if they stuck some sort of electric or hybrid powertrain as a dummy.

Nothing new here... the concept is the same as it was before.
Not liking the wierd front end of the car. Otherwise looks good.

I do not think we have ever seen it with a BMW engine though (or at least a BMW logo on it). No?
Edit: OOPS it was just a color scheme and still says Toyota. |

I love the FT-1. Very excited for new information as it comes down. Partnership with BMW for the engine is a good thing. The N54 and S55 are absolute beasts. So if it gets a TT I-6 it will have the capacity to be an absolute monster with tons of aftermarket tuning support.
Red is not a good color on it. I love the gray/saddle color combo though. Also can't wait to see one in Black. So was this just an announcement that the FT-1 is the Supra? Obviously it's still a concept.

Meh, I'd still take my old 94 TT, six speed with a targa top. One of my greatest disappoints in life is that the prices on the damned things still haven't dropped low enough where I could justify buying a second car. I'm hoping in a few years to look into importing a cheap, RH drive example. Should be fun.

When did this car turn into a Supra? Car was designed by a team in California for Gran Turismo. Have they announced it as a supra concept, or is that what everyone wants it to be?

Common chassis with the future BMW Z4. Common turbo BMW I6 powerplant plus electric. I enjoyed the sight of FT-1 concept at NYAS - it looks stunning. From all angles. Even the nose. Too bad the front-end will inevitably get reworked and to comply with modern pedestrian safety regulation. a

From Jalopnik, "We've reached out to Toyota, and we'll let you know if we hear back. UPDATE: Well, that was fast. Toyota got back to us, and while we're waiting to get some sort of official in-writing response, they're holding fast to the company line, at least here in the US. It is, as of this moment, a design study only, according to a company spokesperson."
