It's so inconsistent between peoples driving habits, abuse and how long they've had mods.

Some go before 20K just on stock vehicles while others FBO go past 50K miles.

Just set aside a few dollars because it will eventually let go.

I'm FBO with meth on a stock clutch @ 44K miles. Never slipped once. I'm just waiting for it to slip before I worry about.

My car only has 45k and it slips (Surges) throughout the RPM range when I run E85. Basically anything over 17psi causes it, below that, normal. So the pressure plate is my culprit.

How well a clutch holds up to power is hands down related to driving habits/style, actual use (Traffic), and modifications. This platform really doesn't have a "Slip will happen at 3-4XX HP/TQ".

Agreed it depends. I'm at 70k and it slips in 5th and 6th gear WOT when I used to blend fuel to e40. I usually just downshift (like I should)...but a clutch is in my future. I'm also looking at the 550i clutch plate for a summer upgrade. Ive recently moved and have less access to e85 so currently I can't get it to slip, but time will tell and I'm going to start making trips to pick up e85 again because it is addicting!

When you say (surges) in reference to your slipping what does that mean because I'm having a problem that might be clutch related but I'm not sure yet.

Mine was perfectly fine on pump gas. e40 tune made quick work of it. It held for a while with e40 but I'm over 100k now anyway so I knew it was coming. I think the stock clutch holds up incredibly well considering what we throw at it.

If you want to know if your clutch is slipping then put the car in 4th gear at about 30 MPH and go WOT. If it slips, you will know, especially in the 3500-4500 RPM range. (Usually 4th gear and up first).

If it's just started to slip it will typically grab again by about 5000-5500 RPM.

However, if you continue to try to make it slip it will exponentially get worse.

When this happened to me I dialed down the boost between 2000 RPM and 5000 as I wasn't ready to buy a new clutch yet. I also avoided going WOT in that part of the powerband (greatest torque and load).

I know a few members that had this happen right at about 25K miles (modded for the life of the vehicle) and some were able to milk it another 15-20K miles.

If it's starting to slip and you want to enjoy the full power potential, get a clutch ASAP. Prolonged clutch slipping can also glaze and hot spot the flywheel so it's best practice to replace ASAP.

Wow you were spot on with this one, im in the mountains for school and I always felt like the car struggled a little when it went uphill in 4th or low rpm 3rd. I'm not going to wait a second on this one I just checked the prices of flywheels and wow.

Mine is original. 207,600 miles. FBO and juicebox. I drive hard too. Stock will last if you drive properly and hold close to 450 hp. After that it's upgrade time. It's flat here (Florida ) and I always go to neutral at lights etc. with clutch disengaged.

The stock clutch has held out so far on our shop 335 with 160,000 km on it and full bolt on with meth.

But its really about the driver. Some drivers are hard on the clutch while others are not. I guess I fall into the category of being pretty easy on my clutches

Yea, the more you let it slip the exponentially worse it will get.

Biggest concern is ruining that OEM DMFW and glazing it if you intended on keeping it and re-using it.

That's about 100,000 miles. Not sure how you pulled that off. I know a bunch of guys with similiar modifications including myself and the biggest problem was the pressure plate not being able to clamp down hard enough.

The clutch themselves lasted a while.

Then again, these cars were driven hard and long and put away wet.

If you drive conservatively and stay away from the track, dig races, 40 rolls with brake boost and 3rd gear WOT down low in the RPM band, I'd imagine anyone can really extend the life of the clutch. (But where's the fun in that ? )
