Does Deposit Lock-in Price?

Simple question, if I sign a buyer's retail order which states the VIN of the car I'm looking to purchase and I make a $500 deposit -- does that lock-in my price? I signed the papers but there's no signature from the "dealer authorized representative" although the SA did sign the 1 box that mentions no verbal communication being made other than what's on paper.

It should lock in the price and your dibs on the vehicle. But I've known some dealers to only do the $500 deposit thing for a week or so then they'll take whoever the next person in line is.. And usually that next person in line has a check ready to be signed and keys handed over so it leaves the initial buyer SOL... Just my experience..

Most buyers orders are binding IF the deal is completely calculated.

MSRP, selling price, trade, difference, taxable sub-total, fees, less deposit and then total amount due at delivery. Don't talk financing of course.

Read the entire buyers order especially the fine print and that will tell you too or it should. Most states have consumer protection laws and it looks like you are in NJ so I bet those are pretty tight.

If you ordered a new vehicle there may be price protection for the dealer from the manufacturer in the event of a price increase (from the manufacturer) so it's not passed on to you...a good question to ask and then get in writing.

Thanks everyone, I actually picked up the car 2 days ago and everything went smoothly. Got an incredible deal on a 2014 X3 xDrive35i well loaded. Car is single owner, clean carfax and only 2300 miles. MSRP was $56k, most dealers priced the CPO around $48, I got her for $39.9!
