IPod adapter stopped working

I have been using the built in adaptor since buying my car over five years ago. The other day it suddenly stopped working; the screen says 'AUX' instead of IPod. I tried unplugging and plugging it in a few times but nothing happens. I'm bringing it in to the Dealer soon for an oil change and I'm thinking of asking them if they can tell if the problem is with the iPod or the system before they start tearing things apart. I no longer have the IPod recharger, so, I don't think I can test it easily myself.

What do you guys think? I had also refreshed the satellite radio just before this but I can't imagine that is related.

Nothing? Oh well, I'm taking it in tomorrow for an oil change and I'll have them check it out.

Could be a bad cable? Sometimes the cable in my car doesn't charge the ipod, I have to take it out and put it back in for it to work. Sometimes iPod never even shows up and I have to restart the car.

Curious as to what this was, as it happened to me tonight also. EDIT: mine started working again the next day.
