Bluetooth on 2006 330i? iPod?
Hey everyone,
I know this has been talked about over and over. Please excuse the redux. I've been reading and re-reading threads about this subject, but there are so many variables, that I'm really not sure what the final net is. I'm searching for the right e90, and have located a 2006 330i of interest (this is in the U.S., by the way). I don't think it has bluetooth. To be clear, bluetooth is not a make-it or break-it feature for me in the purchase. But I would like to know what I'm getting into. I looked up this car's VIN on bmwvin.com, and among the items that I think would be relevant, here's what it has: 639 COMPLETE PREP. CELLULAR PHONE USA/CDN 677 HIFI SYSTEM PROFESSIONAL 693 SATELLITE TUNER PREPARATION 694 PREPARATION FOR CD CHANGER 645 RADIO CONTROL US 663 RADIO BMW PROFESSIONAL It does not show "Telematic Preparation" in the list. No Navigation. QUESTIONS: 1. If I were to purchase this car, what is the pathway to getting bluetooth to work with my iPhone? 2. Also, is there a pathway to getting my iPod to interface (besides USB)? I'm open to aftermarket items that work well. Also open to OEM. Please help me decipher the latest info on this. It's so much that I haven't been able to get a real understanding of it to answer these questions myself. Thanks for your help! -Jim

Thanks ctuna.
Question, can anyone tell me exactly what "Telematics Preparation" means? I ask because the car in question does not have that according to the VIN search, but the owner says he does have the SOS button and Bluetooth (for phone) and it's either factory or appears to be factory.

Did you look for a TCU module under the trunk floor?
Did you look for a TCU module under the trunk floor?
Generally prep means the wiring is in place to you only need the module and programming to be added. They stopped doing this after 09. If you look at the entertainment PDF in the above links it shows you were the TCU is whcih means Telephone control unit. Later this was replaced with Mulf modules . Around 2011 they started integrating more of these functions into the radio or idrive. Telemetrics is BMW's equivalent to onstar its basicly a built in phone with gps that has some car control functions like unlocking the doors to sending out an emergency signal when you are in a accident.
