I would smoke the engine to see where the leak (if any) is. Any codes?

Yea, sounds like something either wasn't connected or wasn't installed properly. Go back to whoever serviced it and have them look into it.

had this issue... doesnt look good. few questuions:

did you lower the subframe before you did the valve cover?

how easy was the valve cover to go into place? did you force it in?

does the whistling go away when you rev?

did you check your fuel trim?

if not, id look for a pinched gasket, or a loose vacuum hose. its common for people to pinch the o2s wire on the rear part of the valve cover, or even pinch the gasket on the rear passenger corner.

double check tightness of all the bolts. and RE- check fuel trim, if it looks like its adding fuel, and all looks well, its very possible the valve cover cracked. hairline crack on the place where the 2 middle bolts bolt down the valve cover.

close, buffalo ny

I had the hood up with the engine running, but nobody around to put their foot on the gas (damn drive by wire) and it almost sounds as if it's coming from the alternator. It's original, and we did a new serp belt/tensioner at the same time as the valve cover gasket.

Hmm... 160k on this car, org alternator... but I'll be damned if I toss an $800 part at a problem if I'm not sure thats the deal.

I had a whistling/crickets sound pop up after I did the belt and tensioner on mine which ended up being the alternator failing. I suspect the common issue with the tensioner bolt backing out/bending was the precursor...I caught it when it the belt was still completely on the pulley but had walked off-center. I think the tension being out of whack caused strain on the alternator's and OAD's bearings; when I initially pulled the OAD pulley I found a bunch of black powdered material from the pulley's seal as if it had been slipping or locking up. Installed the new OAD and was still left with the noise, finally confirmed it was an internal issue with the alternator with a mechanics stethoscope (it was abundantly clear immediately)

Also, sssshhhh

If you have Bosch 180 amp, that's the one you need, and its NEW not reman. and no core so you can rebuild your old one if you're so inclined. This is even cheaper than it was when I got it, I think I paid 398.
