Anyone here uninstall their Sirius receiver when getting rid of their car?
I paid over $600 to buy the receiver for Sirius and have it installed by BMW a couple years ago. My lease is up and I'm turning in the car next week, I was thinking since I paid for the receiver, I should uninstall it and sell it myself.
Has anyone here done this? I'm not sure what my next car will be, but is the receiver compatible with non bmws? |

Check eBay for going rate. And the for-sale forum here. Someone might want it.
Unlikely to be of use to you in the future. Personally, I have no use for sat. radio anymore. With BMW´s iPod connectivity and Internet radio (via the aux. input), that´s more than anyone could ask for.

Satellite radio is a big waste IMO. You pay all this money to have radio stations that are 'uninterrupted' with commercials. This is of course without the exception of the radio station plugging itself...
With all the other options available (HD Radio, ipod integration, etc.) I just find it to be a waste of money... |

I agree about the waste of SAT radio. Not to get off topic...but I had XM and so did the wife for about a year. Occasionally I liked to listen to some talk radio discussions and some of the music/sports but they started changing the lineup and dropping some channels so I dropped them. And the commercials are pretty ridiculous.

HD radio...are you kidding me? Its the exact same programming in a nicer wrapper if you are lucky enough to live within range of the digital signal which has less coverage than the original analog one. Talk about a waste. Satellite radio is a bargain...70 channels of commercial free music satisfying every taste for $10/month. Unbelievable bargain. This doesn't even include the talk/entertainment channels.

i disagree. i've had sirius for close to two years now and almost never listen to terrestrial radio in my car. as usual, there are points in time where i enjoy listening to my mp3 player and cd's as well.
the only channels that have commercials on sirius are some of the news, talk, and sports channels. everything else, including the music channels, are commercial free. i've never owned xm, but i heard some of their channels have commercials and that you have to pay more for other channels. hopefully that'll change with the sirius and xm merger. one of the reasons i went to satellite radio is that local radio has become so lousy. with companies like clear channel and cbs buying up all the radio stations, local radio has really lost it's individuality imho which was one of the things that made them great. now a lot of the programming is dictated by the head corporate office and unfortunately they don't do a very good job at it. hd radio is a joke imho. pay for a receiver just to receive more lousy fm programming? no thanks! my 2¢. ---------- to the original poster... i say take it out and resell it. but yea, it might be a good idea to find out how much they're going for on the used market, especially if you plan on paying somebody to uninstall it for you.

i appreciate everyones input.
I've narrowed it down to a G37 and 335 sedan, I dont particularly need the extra 2 doors, but the 335 coupe starts to stretch the budget. I dont even think Sirius is available on the infinitis. |

I happen to enjoy Sirius, as my car is pre 6FL availability.
What I have a huge problem with is BMW charging $700 for a Sirius radio with less functionality than the $60 aftermarket model.

I cant remember the last time I listened to Ter. Radio. I mean, the sports, the talk, and NO COMMERCIALS! You cant beat it. Plus once the merger goes through, Baseball! LETS GO METS!
honestly, I think the whole HD radio is a sham. Same stuff, 2 songs and then 10 minutes of commercial. TERRIBLE! I do like my Ipod jack, but its nice to have both. |
