4BF5 and 4D16 code experience

Wanted to post this info to the forum to help the body of knowledge here.

I have been at Army Basic Training for the past 10 weeks. I live in the same city as my parents so I left them the keys to drive the car every few weeks.

I get home yesterday and my dad tells me that the last time he drove it the SES came on. He took it the local dealer and something was fixed under my CPO warranty. Invoice was in the front seat. I check the invoice and here is what's on it:

Quote:
Customer states service engine soon light is on. CPO Active. Pre-cat and post-cat N0X sensors are faulty. Interrogate fault memory. 4BF5 and 4D16 stored. Performed SCR system test including 30 min test drive. Test plan indicates both N0X sensors are defective. Removed and replaced both N0X sensors and performed SCR system adaptation. Cleared fault memory and performed SCR system test again including 30 min test drive to verify repair. SCR system is now operating as designed with no malfunctions present.
Only paid the $50. The invoice did not have what the cost would have been. Any thoughts on this? What do you think this would have cost out of pocket?

Oh one more thing. I used to have the JBD installed. I started at default and went to 100% but removed it and drove for about 3 weeks with it out. Don't know if there was any relation.

Edit: Forgot to add. I purchased the car back in December with 58,265 miles. Car has 60,889 miles now.

I'm thinking you're the only guy in basic with a 335d waiting for him when he gets out!

Heck, when I was in basic I didn't even own my first car yet. Doesn't seem like it was 49 years ago. I didn't own my BMW 2002 until four years later and it cost me $2,997 new.

My NOx sensor was recently replaced. My d was at 79k miles. It was like $600 for that dumb sensor. So much more expensive than O2 sensors I've replaced on my previous m3's.

Luckily for me the dealership covered it. Don't have the receipt with me so don't have the exact amount or comment.

Haha. I'm 34 so I was one of the oldest guys there. I'm 99.9999999999% positive I was the only D owner. Probably my best friend in Basic was the only one older than me in my Platoon. He's 35 and a modded e92 335i owner. Funny how it worked out that way.

Edit: So i did some checking on the N0X sensors. Looks like BavAuto has one for ~$600 and the other for around ~$480. Yikes.

Let's ask ourselves a question. What is the likelyhood of both NOx sensors going at the same time? It is possible, it's also possible that dealers' test plans just say to go and replace both anyway. Now I'm wondering if cleaning the urea nozzle would have produced the same plausible result...
