yeah you should have beat him by a lot. my previous car for 6 year before I just bought the 335i was a g8 gt, mine had a tune, long tubes, catted x pipe and stock mufflers, intake and ported manifold, it did around 340rwhp, it was fun, and very torque down low as it had a 6.0 v8, I know the 335i technically has more torque when tuned, but it just doesn't feel the same the g8 never had to wait for boost even if it comes on quick with the 335i.
regardless the g8 was a big heavy car, 4000lb+ and it did have LSD from the factory and that made it fun, but gearing was 2.92 and with basically made 5th and 6th gear not needed other then for highway crusing at 80 at 2000 rpms. lol my g8 ran a 12.9 @ 109mph with a box tune and exhaust and intake, before my custom tune and ported manifold on street tires just flooring it. it had no drama at the still and rarely had a problem with traction on the street unless you were trying to have fun. bottom line they are big heavy pigs that handle decently for their size, they are very consistent in their times due to weight RWD, and LSD when full bolt on. they do pretty good from a dig as its just floor it and it will hook very easy even on street tires. once you modify them with FI they work pretty well as long as you have the traction, wheel hop is a concern but can be fixed, the auto trans will hold around 550-600whp no problem, over that they need clutch packs. there are multiple people in the 10s and at least 2 hit 9s. I owned my G8 GT for 6 years and it was a great car, never once let me down, and it fun with the LSD, but in the end I want a manual turbo car that was lighter weight, and the interior and refinement of the BMW and built quality is much better. the G8 had a legendary NA engine tho... here is a picture of my g8 ![]() |

As others said, you need to fully turn of traction control. Hold the button down for 5 seconds or so until it tells you it's fully off. This is why you lost over and over. And over. Again.

I'm not surprised. A full exhaust/intake/tune G8 GT should be making 370-380 RWHP. Weight will be similar to your Xi as well. It also has an LSD where your car has open front and rear diffs, so even though it's traction won't be as good, it won't be that far off.
For some reason the BMW guys typically use STD correction factor on dyno numbers vs SAE, so the numbers are inflated a bit compared to SAE most everyone else goes by. |

Lol also my transfer case was on its way out as well...

To everyone saying I don't know how to turn traction control off... I do. I held it down so that the light with the circle arrow and the triangle with exclamation point inside the triangle came on. The DTC light was not on.
I am running Michelin Primacy MXM4 all season tire on 19" VMR V710's Edit: Also, I will be meeting with a buddy of the owner of the G8 today who owns a FBO 335i. He's gonna drive my car and we're going to try and figure out what's wrong with my car. The 335i owner always spanks this G8 so i don't see why mine isn't... Maybe a boost leak is what he thinks. |

I have also raced a good buddy with a G8 GT. From a dig, I was consistently at least a few car lengths ahead before we let off. Both cars were completely stock at the time. Now the G8 has a tune, new cams and intake. We haven't done a true dig yet but just accelerating on the highway he is gaining on me.

But it doesn't make any sense for him to beat me after I put a jb4, dci, dp, and fmic while he only put a tune, intake, and exhaust in. Not to mention that I put 4 gallons e85 in my gas tank and he was running only 93. |

Ya I would expect you to beat him. I don't have any mods except intake so I don't know for sure how much all your mods add but I would expect you to win. Forgive the dumb question, but are your tires within 1% of each other? I think I saw you were Xdrive and if TC and DSC are completely off, tire mismatch is the only reason I can think of for any traction lights to still come up.

You are fine then. Basically the rolling diameter of all 4 tires needs to be within 1% of each other. If you look at tire size calculators, a 245 front and a 255 rear will not be within 1%. This means there are only a few staggered setups that work on xDrive. I don't know all the technical aspects of it, but if the tires are outside the 1% range, the xDrive system doesn't really know what to do.

Also, the JB4 has a sharp increase in power in the lower side of the powerband which makes the traction problem exponential. You should look at getting a flash tune, IMO. It will help give you a more progressive power curve and better traction in the low end of the power band. But, TIRES first!!! Can't stress that enough. I recommend Hankook Ventus EVO2 - great in the summer and rain, and they are a good bang for the buck. ![]() |

He's running a square setup rim tire combo for all season, clearly.
Get staggered rims tires as stated above min. 265 rear, 275 even better. He's basically racing on a winter tire combo from tire rack, LOL. Geeez. |

On topic: 5 codes were thrown today. 2F8F, 29E1, 29E0, 29F4, 29F5. Couldn't find a boost leak or anything along those lines. Looked up those codes and didn't really seem like anything was a big deal. If anyone has more answers on those codes it would be greatly appreciated. Gonna log soon and find out what's wrong. Although I did end up beating a tuned Taurus SHO by a good amount from a dig last night. Not to mention I had a full car haha! |
