Injector compatibility?
Are these part numbers compatible? 13538616079 (newest version) and 13537585261 (previous).
Thanks

They are the same part with different index numbers. When you order the 079 injectors they will actually say the 261 number on them. The important part is after the 261 there will be a - then after the dash another number the 079 injectors will have a number or "index" higher than 10 which is the newly revised injector. Ones that have a number under 10 will be the old injectors. Newer ones are supposed to last longer as the older ones tend to stick open and leak while car isn't running.

Here is a good explanation from germanutoparts.com
IMPORTANT: Injectors with index 10 and lower have a different calibration and construction than injectors with index 11 and higher. Due to this difference, the injectors with index 10 and lower and injectors with index 11 and higher cannot be mixed in the same engine bank (i.e. cylinders 1-3 or 4-6). The index number can be found on the head of the injector after the BMW part number. Example: 13 53 8 616 079-11. "11" is the index number. |

There is a pretty detailed thread on this subject. Apparently one member here disproved the inability to mix injector indexes. He actually runs his car with different index numbers on the same bank. If you look at the coding process, each cylinder is coded to each injector flow rate.
