Hidden IPod remote right in the back of my steering wheel - just fingertips away!

I found a spot for my iJet wireless remote for Ipod behind the right side of the steering wheel.

This is velcro'd and I intentionally turned the remote upside down since I wanted the forward/skip button right where my index finger could easily tap it. The remote's volume buttons are upside down though (hi below-low on top) but the car's volume control is there to handle it.

It never interfered with the windshield wiper control switch/stick since it still has around 2 inches of clearance. Never interfered with my grip on the steering wheel either since it is far enough from where my fingers usually grip the wheel even in full left or right turns.

BTW - I have done this in my previous car. You have to get use to tapping the switch behind the wheel. I can't imagine paying $400-$500 for an iPod interface on the car when all I really wanted is to forward/skip to the next song while driving. Besides, I'm not fond of monkeying around with my iPod or any in dash display for that matter (like iDrive, Nav devices..etc) while driving due to safety reason - attention on the road vs everything else.

Here's some pics:

That's neat. I didn't even know that type of device existed. How much was it?

Hey Michael, I use AirClick with my mini. I was inspired by Danny (HRC), and got myself one off ebay for 10 bucks.

For you aux line, wouldn't it be much better to run it from your Monster dock attachment than from the headphone jack of the iPod?

I tried that at first but somehow the monster cable is screwing up the iJet wireless control. I don't exactly remember what specific iJet control I had problem with but that is why I just left it at the headphone jack of the iPod.

I'll try putting the aux line on the Monster dock attachment and I'll let you know what I had trouble with originally - if I could ever re-create it. Maybe it will work perfectly this time.

I did look at the AirClick at one time but most of the online retailer sites had notes that this item had been discontinued. I'm sure the AirClick would serve the same purpose if you have or can get one. Did it ever come in black color? I just don't like the white remotes since it would stand out even if it is placed at the rear of the steering wheel.

just found something similar - check out the Scosche Wireless Ipod Remote. costs around $50 bucks at Target.

Rhooki - Any follow-up to what the problem was with the line out of the Monster and the ijet? I'm thinking about the same combo. Thanks!

It turns out that my iJet connection to the iPod is loose and the remote was not that responsive before. Remote response was the same for both Aux line on the Monster cable or on the iPod itself. A few weeks ago, I have put the connection on the Monster cable and just placed something (a looped velcro) behind the iJet to support the weight. I also put a rubber band in the iJet & iPod to keep it secure due to vibration.

Now, the remote works perfectly!
