Suspension

My e92 330d is coming upto 100k so looking to treat it to some new shocks and springs

Was looking at these
http://m.ebay.de/itm/351310381853?_mwBanner=1

With new top mounts and bump stops.

Is there anything else I should change while I'm there? Bushes etc

Also does anyone recommend any other springs and shocks?

Has anyone changed there anti roll bars? Much different with eibachs? Or h&rs?

Many thanks

t been there's a few threads on here re suspension, Mo (Mob17's)had many a good accurate point to put over re suspension

This is one of Seb's post where the very questions you've asked is being answered http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1105197

I joined in the thread as I've got an E92 I know I've got shocks that need replacing so was interested to hear the various opinions. But re the other components keep an eye on my car over the next 5-7 weeks... can't say too much more at the moment but it'll be a good read I hope.

To the best of my knowledge (and I could be wrong of course) out of H&R's and EiBach's EiBach's will offer better ride compromise H&R's will offer the handling but will offer the firmer ride more aggressive drop.

Its a bit of an open question to be fair mines coming up for 80k I know the suspension in terms of resistance is fading away driven lower mileage cars that feel tighter driven higher mileage cars that again feel tighter than mine.

if the car were doing motorway work for instance as the mileage increases I'd expect the driver to notice some nervousness and floating sensation or pitching while at motorway speeds which are usually the first signs a check on re shocks on a ramp with a pry bar usually helps confirm the issue

In terms of mileage and age difficult to be precise as we all drive differently and ask our cars to do different things but if I look at mine and say it's almost 9 years old and it's done nigh on 80K in my opinion the shocks are past their best which I can feel though I know it is enough to get it safely through the MOT

Something you should consider is all the bushes and suspension arms.

Its fine putting on £1500 worth of suspension, but attach that to your 100k old knackered rubber bushings and its going to be crap.

Take the opportunity to put M3 arms and new topmounts on the front, and sort out the rear bushes as well, if they're badly worn fixing those will make a bigger difference than the suspension itself will.

And dont suppose yours will be fine because they never get mentioned on an MOT or service, they never do unless they are TOTALLY fubar, and they start affecting the cars handling long before that. Its all very subtle, a lack of precision, bit of woolyness and unpredicability when nearing the limits etc etc.

You are correct sir, bushes play a major part in the process lead to anything from squidgy handling to annoying squeaks and shudders when under duress. Anti links too worthy of inspection/change for the said same reasons

More straightforward than changing a front shock should phase anyone with basic knowledge tool kit and time on their hands.

I'm sure somewhere there's a YouTube type tutorial on the very subject

No worries found this while looking around

not quite BMW on the first video of course but shows a quick snippet of the roll bar coming off/going on, however keep the video going you'll see 2 BMW's back to back going through their paces in various stages of EiBach tune which visually helps

Hopefully helps visually to answer tbenn1's question too

I've been looking at those from Germany as the euro/pound is in our favour. I'm still not 100% set on them though.

My friend has a 135i on eibach spring with m sport dampers and it drives really well, I can only presume a 3 series with the same springs and better damping would be similar

Did you order them? The exchange rate has peaked and the tyres on my 18s are low.

I need to squeeze in one last purchase before I get my flat and this is more important than fixing my CIC as I can't run the 19's with standard suspension!

Deep down I know it's pointless putting Eibach springs on 90k shocks, the springs are cheap but it's still best part of £200 for fitting and alignment.

I guess the only other option is coilovers but I need to try keep this sensible and leave the stupid suspension/rim options to the Nissan.

Basically what I'm saying is I need some encouragement to go for these

Now I've just seen this Koni H&R kit. Apparently lowers 40mm/20mm.

I haven't yet, sadly bathroom and boiler come first.

I've got h&r's I put them on standard se shocks and was to bouncy.

You can borrow these to try on you shocks of you wish? Dependant on where you are in the world.

My friends 135i on eibach springs and m sport shocks rides lovely though

Haha yeah I'm sure that's what I've got to look forward too!!

Thanks for the offer but I'll go for shocks and springs, once I have a flat I won't be able to afford car parts so I may as well sort the shocks now so they are future proofed.

I can get either the B12 Pro or B12 sportline for £500. I've scrapped the plans to mod/ruin the e90 now, as I've managed to get a mortgage without selling my Nissan I don't need two cars slammed on massive wheels.

Just need to trawl through the e90 suspension thread this weekend to check out the cars on B12s.

There was some deal on Nectar points with ebay recently so if that's still on it'll save another £50.

Then I'm 100% comitted to B12s.
