Cobb Stage 2 for E92 335 with Automatic trans.
How are the gains on the automatic E92 with the stage 2 Cobb upgrade? Is it as noticeable as the manual?

Is yours an automatic? Im looking at a 2009 335i with sport package with auto transmission. I need to know if ill be happy with the upgrades being that's its not a manual trans. I would like to pull the trigger on this by Friday so I appreciate any input.

Yes. It's worth it... upgrade the FMIC and CP and the car will be faster than you could imagine. The AT is fine. I DD my car and find the AT pretty decent. Car is very fast and smooth.

So just a stage 2 upgrade alone doesn't make a substantial difference?

Stock components will inevitably fail when pushed to said levels on a daily basis. One in particular that most commonly fails, would be the stock Charge Pipe. Upgrade the FMIC, upgrade your charge pipe, save yourself some $$$$ on the COBB, and use/go with MHD instead. |

Ok bear with me, what is MHD? I'm new to this stuff. I've read about some people doing the upgrades but nothing about changing all this other stuff. It makes sense I guess.

Can't comment on MHD, but in short, YES. VERY noticeable. You might also want to try out the Alpina B3 TCU flash and keep it in S mode for the best experience

If you want to go with something that has more background, then that's perfectly fine, you have the two aforementioned options. But I would certainly say that MHD Flasher is the future of the N54 platform, as it makes everything especially easy and similar if not better results are achieved for less money overall. As for changing certain things, depending on what "stage" of tune is being ran, some parts aren't exactly necessary to be upgraded. However the common consensus seems to be that, once one goes stage one, they'll want to go stage two because it's relatively easy, cheap, and of course.. more powerrrr. The power is already there right? Why not "unlock" it? It's just a few simple upgrades to make everything function more smoothly and safely. Changing other things such as downpipes, adding DCI's, etc., aren't necessary unless you're trying to gain as much power as possible. But when running stage two, it is definitely recommended to have at least an upgraded FMIC & Charge Pipe. Also before running any sort of tune, stage 1 or not, it is recommended to change your spark plugs and check your coils. As, depending on the last time they were replaced, a misfire can occur. I have exactly what you're looking at - a 2009 E92 automatic with sport package.
Yes, it's worth it. The Stage 1 alone was hugely noticeable. My highly tuned butt dyno tells me I gained at LEAST 75whp. I'm running Stage 2 now with the mods in my sig, and a new FMIC sitting in my trunk ready to go once I replace my janky TMAP sensor on my messed up chargepipe (all my fault, install error, VRSF makes good stuff), which I hope to do this weekend. I'll get some dyno time once I have the FMIC and the Stage 2+ FMIC Aggressive installed. You need the physical modifications to support the aggressive tuning the Cobb installs. Without them, you can't move enough air or the air is too hot, which causes problems and means that you might damage your motor. Cobb's recommendations are: Stage 1: Drop-in air filter replacement (eg K&N Filter) Stage 1+: Drop-in filter and upgraded front mount intercooler (FMIC) Stage 2: Drop-in filter and high flow downpipes Stage 2+: Drop-in filter, downpipes, FMIC, upgraded chargepipe Stage 3: Filter, downpipes, FMIC, chargepipe upgraded cat-back exhaust Power gains are as follows. Keep in mind that these are different on every car, and that this is only a guideline (93 octane and Aggressive maps used here). These are the best generalizations I can come up with. It varies depending on which parts (even which brand of parts) you choose to install. Stock: ~280whp and ~300lb-ft on most DynoJet dynos Stage 1: 60hp, 90lb-ft tq at the wheels = ~340whp and 390lb-ft wtq Stage 2+: 125hp, 150lb-ft tq = ~425whp and 450lb-ft wtq Remember that the instant you tune, you're going to misfire. I mean, it's not 100% guaranteed, but it's highly likely. So likely, in fact, that Cobb made a how-to fix it video. Don't worry, it's pretty easy; just replace your spark plugs and possibly an ignition coil or two. There's details and links to the video and parts here. Good luck, and welcome to the club!

My stage 1+ Cobb with auto only did like 335hp 325tq (before walnut blasting) on our dyno jet at work. I just have a Cobb drop in filter and ER full FMIC kit with a tial.
Just waiting on my backordered Cobb down pipes and going to try stage 2 and 2+ to see what they do then probably get a custom tune. |

And you told Jason above that something was wrong cause they should dyno at 330 stock. Chp (bhp) or not, that is incorrect. and comparing an estimated bhp to a whp isn't gonna work.
270ish to 330 whp is a pretty good jump from a base tune with no supporting mods. Edit: if you take the 20 % drivetrain loss to get a stock dyno to 330bhp like you are saying, a 330whp dyno is almost 400bhp. So either way, good gains. |

My numbers are on a dynojet that is very accurate . Cobb OTS tunes are not as aggressive as most pro tunes. I will be getting a tune soon just waiting on my down pipes.
I might throw it on the dyno at work again to see what it does not that it had carbon blasting done. |
