Mobil 0w-40w with the Mann filter from Amazon. I change it every 7,500 Miles.

So far no issues sitting at 152k Miles.

Anything with the LL01 specification stamp, with a climate appropriate viscosity. Most common options are M1 0w40, Shell and Castrol euro-import (not the regular). And of course BMW oil, which is not more expensive than the rest by any significant margin.

You should pay more attention about the brand of filter you get. BMW, Mahle and Mann are good options. Anything else is gambling.

Thanks
You can buy oil at bmw dealership.

I don't know what the dealer puts in but my peak oil temp under normal driving is 252-258.
No stock oil cooler.
WTF?

Seems maybe the brand oil may help?
It's been about 8k/11months since last oil change. Going in for another oil change at dealer next month. Probably only 200-400 more miles on current oil.

Stage 1 aggressive Cobb.
(I ran hot before cobb as well).

I use AMSOIL 5w-40 euro blend high sap w/ a Mann filter. Mann filters fit and work the best. I have 112k on mine w/ original n54 and turbos. I get 25% off AMSOIL because I bought a membership. I am a daily driver and I do not track the car. The car has dimple magnetic drain plugs in the oil and transfer cases as well as the transmission fill plug. I also change out the filter very 8k. I change the oil every 16k and use an AMSOIL engine flush as well. In addition, I will run the techron fuel system cleaner in the car every 6 months. One other thing I do is clean and re-oil my k&n drop filter once a year as well as clean the vanos solenoids and swap positions.

You do know asking about oil is akin to arguing religion?

If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."
