starter problem

i pressed the start button once, car starter engages, but only halfway, car does not start. i wait 5 seconds and press the start button again, and the engine starts, everything is fine. could be starter is going bad? wiring? or battery?

Well check the battery voltage, assuming that is good. The starter is more than likely on its way out
