Newb Z06 driver reaches power level 9000 (it's over, actually)
Some dipshit in a Z06 drives like a complete lunatic at a HPDE at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, CA. Jalopnik has a full write up: http://jalopnik.com/worst-trackday-v...e-t-1712375361 Don't miss: 5:30 - 6:10 :: Days of Thunder re-enactment! 14:55 :: Driver asks for full power mid-turn; traction control saves his ass; driver curses car; lulz

I haven't developed a clear idea of what event this actually was, but I really wish the nannies in his car would suddenly stop working so he could get an idea of just how horrible he's driving. Watch the throttle position indicator. The guy has two modes: full throttle and swearing at other drivers.

This is very reason I do not go to the track.
1. Everyone are doing FP, and the Z06 driver was only one who think he is driving for the car title. There is NO RACE. THERE IS NO QUALIFYING. IT is just a damn FP (Free Practice). 2. Driver was on throttle way too early, and even full throttle when the steering was >120deg. Getting in the throttle WAY early doesn't equal to faster lap time. lol 3. Circuit rage for sure. Again, people there are just "free practicing" and he was doing "Fast and Furious" car title match by himself! 4. I would personally take the karate chop rather than radio from instructor who are on telemetry saying "you are too slow on the corner." "You are braking too early/late." 5. Driver was understeering and/or oversterring on majority of corner. Sometimes understeer and correct with more steer. 6. call me chicken, but I would not wanna get into a circuit w/ guys like that.

Yeah.
I think if it was fully Vette ,Miata, "brand" meet, it MIGHT have been less dangerous due to vehicles having similar paces. Last street car club I've ever been into was rx7 club. I think most of them had a similar pace, and it wasn't bad. Well, it is just a friendly club meet, so they don't have that x% rule. A (X% as fastest to slowest lap time cannot have X amount of % difference). Quote:

Totally true, they have a bad rep here in the bay area, and would never track with them. BMWCCA in the bay area has an impeccable safety record in comparison.

In fact I do remember one event where some guy in HPDE1 really thought he was hot shit. Nothing as crazy as this guy on the video but he was honking and flashing his lights, passing without point by etc. Anyways he got pulled off the track and had a talking to. Apparently that didnt work and he kept going at it the next session. Anyways long story short one of the instructors decided to give the guy a ride along to show him the line or what not. Apparently this guy blew chunks all over the instructors car during the ride along and no one has seem him since at a NASA event. At no point have I ever been at all afraid of any other driver in any NASA HPDE1 event I have participated in. |

This guy reminds me of someone I had crossed paths with at one of the track schools I attended for motorcycles. Just observing how this guy was talking and acting, I could tell he had a big ego. Well unfortunately, he was writing checks that he could cash. And I had the misfortune of sharing bikes with this guy as part of this track school includes the use of the school's bikes (BMW S1000RRs). His riding coach kept trying to keep him in check as he was riding way over his ability levels. He would calm down when his riding coach was baby sitting him. But his riding coach also had another student to work with. So when he was left alone, the guy would get stupid again.
He really thought because he sees another rider take a corner at a certain speed that he could automatically do the same. Well that didn't pan out so well. He ended up crashing twice the first day and once the second. The first day crashes the mechanics were able to get the bike repaired in enough time for me to take it out on my turn on the track. The second day crash effectively put the bike we were sharing out of commission and the school had to drop me on a different bike that wasn't ridden for two days. Even with all the nannies the S1000RR has (traction control, ABS, and rain mode which reduces the power down to 150HP), it couldn't compensate for stupid. Well, the guy had an expensive outing as depending on the damage, he could have been on the hook for up to $1250 per day in damage fees. Definitely day two was a $1250 day for him. Wonder if he felt it was worth the money to not check his ego at the door. Maybe the fool in the video should be put on a bike. At the very least, Darwin can help the human gene pool. |

Bike = zero forgiveness compared to a car. I'd love to see this guy try this kind of thing on a bike.
