Basic 335d mods
So I'm looking into getting a 335d coming from a mazdaspeed3 with a long list of performance cars. But I'm wanting a decent daily, mpg, family hauler, rwd. Comparing the passat tdi to the 335d I feel in love with the power and looks of the 335d.
So on that what are some of the most needed or best mods to do first. I have read a ton on this forum already and I'm really excited to get one. Seems like egr, w/m kit, dpf delete+full exhaust, tune. Gets the engine set up pretty good, any intakes or stock is fine? And anybody use malone tuning or is Jr auto pretty much the best out there? Then the long list of suspension, dif bushings, tires, m3 upgrades. Plus the massive amount of exterior upgrades. Am I on the right course here? |

A few have went to the differential upgrade as well. Your list is in line. How many miles on your D? Hoping that it's not too late and walnut blast doesn't need to be at top of your list.

Haven't gotten one yet but I'm looking at no higher than 40k miles. Hopefully installing a meth/egr delete right away will prevent any needed cleaning. But I did just walnut blast my speed3 with direct injection it gets bad. So I have everything to do it lol.

I prefer the stock look. To each their own I suppose.

I've done all upgrades to my vehicles myself, besides doing welding work. I have a garage and can afford beer and pizza. So usually my car buddies come over and help.

Just bought my 2011 D maybe 2 months ago w/ 36k on it. I always have that urge to modify but I still have 2 years of CPO warranty left.. I for sure don't want to void that. lol But once she is out of warranty then turbo back exhaust, EGR delete, catch can and tune are on the list! Maybe Meth.
I'm thinking abut CBU though.. Might need to have it walnut blasted already.. The performance is good but the MPGs are not really what I expected or read about. I don't think its covered under CPO unless the SES light comes on for it though.. |

Since no one else has chimed in about Malone Tuning, I'll elaborate. I'm a shadow dealer of sorts for Mark. Im not on his officical dealer list, but I have numerous customers that use his tuning in the vw/audi world and work with him regularly. If he says he can do something, then he definitely can and very well at that. If my normal tuner is out of town or my flash tool doesn't support a vehicle, I have no hesitation to use Mark for tuning. Literally the only reason I use a different tuner for the majority of my tuning needs is because Mark is deaf and I can't call him on the phone. In my line of work, being able to get ahold of someone in 30 seconds is occasionally necessary. I'll ask him about alphabet soup the next time i talk to him as I finally picked up a 335d for myself so it's a pertinent question.

Malone Tuning is most likely having issues addressing the deletes aspect of the 335d. People have been waiting on their tune for ages now.

On the subject of Malone Tuning, I actually got the chance to meet Mark during the Southern Wörthersee VW/Audi event in Helen, Georgia. My buddy and I asked about the progress with the 335d tuning since I was still planning out my mods at the time. His response to us was that they were "90% of the way there".
I was very interested at the time in possibly using them for my alphabet delete tune since they have two dealers here in Georgia. However, after reading countless more threads and riding in my buddy's car I decided to go with JR Tuning. I haven't looked back since. I have a feeling that there will probably be a few more outfits developing and offering tunes in the years to come as more and more of these cars come out of warranty. So i guess it depends on how long you have/want to wait for the tuning once you get your 335d. |

My 2 local customers with 335d's both already had Jarek's tunes when we first crossed paths. |
