I'm all for improving the car and making the most of what you have, but why not add the $800 Xenon option?

wait can someone clarify this for me, is it not possible to change the color of the depo rings by swapping out a bulb. Im pretty new to this and have been reading all over the site but cant get a definite answer. Btw does that mean theres 3 different bulbs that go into 1 headlight (low, high, and AE?) sorry i know ignorance is annoying. Thanks

I chose to buy one off the lot and not order it. I wanted a black sedan with the 6 speed and they didn't have any with factory xenons in my area.

No, on these DEPOs you can't change the the AE color. The AEs are each made up of 60 factory installed LEDs. You can put in the high/low beam bulbs of your choosing.

I think the flashing of the angeleyes when you start the car is kinda cool

Could you verify which DEPOs you got? You have a link for the shop? Cheers!

Nice DEPOs. How much were they and where did you get them?

You said above that the LEDs for the turn signals and the LEDs for the AEs are factory installed, what happens if one or more of these LEDs fail, are they easy accessible to replace them with new LEDs?

Also, the involuntary flashing of the LEDs upon starting of the engine, does this always happen before the AEs and lowbeam will switch on?

The flashing of the lights during the startup can be coded out.

The car does a cold/warm check by sending current to each bulb. The current is not enough to turn on the halogen lights (oem setup), but enough to power on the led(hence the flash).

Coding it out will remove the error and flash.

when you mean coding, do you mean bring the car to an auto electrician, for them to change the settings in the ECU for the car to accept Xenon and LEDs?

Unfortunately the AE LEDs are sealed in a plastic ring inside the housing. The rings are mounted to the headlight assembly, they're not free floating like the stockers. If an LED fails your only option would be to replace the head lamp. I'm not sure if you could acquire replace AEs for the headlamps even if you could you'd have to bake the headlamps open to get access to them.

That has been the decider for me then mate, thanks for clearing that up.

Im sure as you can appreciate its not very cost effective to be throwing away a headlight because one or two leds have failed. Its a risk that some people may be prepared to take though.

The older Depo P90 headlights in the image below, to my knowledge have user replaceable bulbs inside the rings and can be changed for LEDs. I think i will be going down this route.

Take a look at the BMW coding section to see if someone who can code is local to you (or you can learn it).

You need a special program and cable to code the car (good chance an auto electrician won't be able to do this)

I know this is an old post, but has anyone with Depo lights (just like the original poster) added the H7 HID wiring and ballasts to their Depo lights?

I'm curious to see pics on how wires would go in/out of the headlight and if holes would need to be drilled etc.

thanks
DH
