Blue tooth, what can I expect?

I have sprint and from what I am reading, I am not going to get the best options. I am willing to swap to another provider but I want to know what all is available... I am not too smart on BT since this is my first car that is capable of using it so please feel free to go into lots of detail

What phones offer the best compatability with the BMW blue tooth?

Sprint doesn't offer the Razor so I will have to change to get it but what does that get me, with the cars BT, over the Trio that Sprint has?

Verizon with the E815 works great in the 2006 325i. It is a certified phone. Check the BMW website for certified phones.

Thanks for the reply... I have the list of the latest phones that work with the car but it doesn't list which ones they have cradles for nor does it say what the car's BT is capable of doing and which phones are capable of providing what options. I guess I want all of the options or at least the ability to pick which ones...

You are right not all phones have cradles available. I think there is an * besides the phones that have cradles. I intend on installing the cradle for the E815 in about a week. Dealer quote is $395.00 installed. BMW is kind of vague but you will need two or three parts for the cradle. Others have had equally good success with other phones and carriers.

The phones will do what the overall description identifies in the BMW literature. Exact features will depend on the phone. But, the BMW picks up the address book from the E815 and essentially you can answer and dial from the steering wheel. You will have to set up your own voice activated phone book as the BMW does not pick up the voice portion of your phone book.

I have taken long trips in the car and the E815 has perfomed extremely well. Verizon has an extensive network so even in remote areas, you have service.

Overall, the BT feature is an excellent item. There were intial issues with BT connectivity affecting certain 325s but BMW issued a service bulletin and resolved the problem. See threads around November-January.

If you already have a phone that offers bluetooth, wait and see if it will work with your car before switching carriers. I have read several people on here that said their bluetooth phone works fine with their car even though the phone isn't on the list of approved phones. If it doesn't work, get the CIP 20 update before you switch carriers if you don't already have it.

The only issue I have read where someone has gotten their phone to talk to the car, but not all the functions work, is with Treos that are also PDAs. Apparently the contact list won't convert over, because it is really in the pda part of the phone. The speed dial list does come over, because it is on the phone part of the phone.

I hear ya... I don't have a BT phone right now... So if I am going to change I want to change to one that I can put in a cradle for power and recharge and maximizing the benefits of having the BT. Unfortunately Sprint doesn't offer but one phone, for my area, that is compatable with the BMW list of approved phones and that is the Trio... They came out with a new BT phone, the A900 but I have seen here that folks are having troubles with it as well and since it is new there isn't going to be a cradle for it yet either... Besides, I am tired of being on hold for an hour with Sprint when I call them. I called Cingular and was on the phone with a tech in 2 minutes...

The phone list from BMW is attached. Note #3 indicates a cradle is available.

That is where I got the list from... I am looking at the new Motorola SLVR since I can't get a phone that BMW offers a cradle for. Has anyone tried one of them yet? They are supposed to be the same as the RAZR...
