Going round in circles

I'm looking for a new car as I've had my pre lci E90 320d m sport 163 for 2 years and covered nearly 50k putting it on 116k. I keep going round in circles and coming back to 3.0 lci E92 M sports, my main concern is my car is worth circa £6k and I'll need at least another £10k for what is almost the same car.

I've seen a fairly nice one for £13k but it's done just under 90k and since my commute is 170 a day it'll soon be at the mileage of my current car, is it really worth spending the extra or should I look else where... e class coupe or 3.0 A5? I've got just under £15k to spend and it has to be a 6 pot diesel auto.

As you can imagine I'm driving the Mrs mad with this.

YOLO. If it has to be a D, get the 335D and you'll never be sorry you did it.

Plus you can get 4.5% APR on some loans right now. Works out very little over even 3 to 5 years.

With the 3.0tdi a5, my old man has one... I personally believe it rides better (smoother) than the e92 330d m sport, could be because it's on 18's not 19's... It grips with the Quattro but due to electric steering it feels numb to me so lacks the excitement... Personally I feel the s Line seats are better than the m sport but many will disagree. Also the in car entertainment / information is truley shite! Has option to look at engine oil level then tells you no info available ever. Can't reset service light without vcds. Not as intuitive as the I drive by any stretch of the imagination.
It is a good car but for the overall package I would say the BMW has it for a drivers car.

Given your annual mileage (circa 40k?) theres no point paying a premium to buy a low mileage car, just to flush its value down the pan winding that sort of mileage onto it.

I'm also not really convinced going to an LCI car from what you have makes any sense either.

I tend to keep my cars for quite few years, however i've realised that buying an end-of-line car means you pay a significant premium, but the car overall looks just as old as the earliest models. It might have a newer number on the front, but it looks and drives and feels just the same as an earlier model which can be purchased for significantly less money.

As a result, when i bought my E90, i bought a 2006 model, with the right spec, for peanuts compared with a 2010+ car. I feel i've ended up with a lot more car for my money than i'd have got buying something newer. If i was going to buy a late model car, then it makes sense to instead stretch to an early F30 or whatever instead.

Why don't you consider a 325d? This ones only 4 years old with 26000 on the clock. Its the same 3.0 engine which is 204 bhp. I read that it can be mapped to the same as a 330, but if you are mainly commuting, where can you actually use the HP these days?

I reckon that with the new shape being in production for 3 years now, you could strike a reasonable deal - maybe £8k to change.

What about keeping your car and buying/fitting reconditioned 6 pot engine, facelift the car & any other extras you wanted.

Will cost you well under 15grand

Well I took the plunge and bought the E92 330d, what a car. It's absolutely amazing, so quick it's like chalk & cheese to my E90 320d. The only down side is the 19" wheels with rft make it very jumpy over anything other than a perfect road surface.

my advice is to change them to non rft before they crack your alloys...if it hasn't done so already tho
