which cobb tune to run?
I am totally new to tuning and cobb. my car came with an accessport V2
I had it uninstalled before I drove across country in the winter, now that it is nice weather I would like to give it a whirl. 2010 xi, all stock, down to the air filter I plan on some sort of intake, either dual open filters, or a drop in and a modified box, or some other sort,. havnt decided yet 91 octane is highest available here. what is the difference with linear throttle? suggestions? it seems like there is a handful of choices, for stage 1? |

You should start on Stage 1 ACN 91 Octane and log.
Then if those logs look good, IE no timing drops, you can try upping to Stage 1 91 Octane. You can start your logs with the default values within the AP. Logs constitute a 3rd gear pull from 2500 RPM to at least 6000 PM, Wide open the entire time in safe location. As far as throttle, stock or linear, well that depends. If you like a predictable power, 1:1 ratio between throttle input and power then go with linear. Otherwise the "stock" will feel a little faster as it has more boost with less throttle input. I prefer predictable and therefore linear. |

I suggest installing new plugs if you haven't in a a while. More power from the tune will more than likely cause your car to misfire...just how it works with these engines.

That's good. I'd say your set to get started. Start with the Stage 1 - Sport ST map. Standard throttle for now because that's what you're used to and a good place to compare gains from. Get the best gas you can, stick with top tier. Get a good log 2500 to 6000rpm in 3rd gear. The logging is pretty straight forward, your cobb has preselected parameters for logging. You just go to the capture live data option, press the enter/go button on any of the parameters and it will begin capturing all parameters. Press the button again to stop capturing.
You're ultimately going to keep modding and keep moving up the map chain If you sense this already, spend the $200 and get a custom tune from PTF or Wedge. Specify your goals, and just be done with it. Best $200 you can spend for gobs of safe, smooth power. OTS maps (off the shelf maps) are just that, conservative maps for the masses. While they do give you a nice bump in power, you just have no idea what you're missing until you go to a custom map designed for YOUR car. Good luck and have fun! |

Don't waste your $$ on an intake. No real gains unless you're running big power. Get a panel filter and be done. The stock BMW intake is actually pretty good.

I went K&N. Also used the Aggressive Stage 1 w/ LT from stock. Try them all and see which you like. We have 93 so that's not an issue here. Any of the 91 maps will be better than stock. GL.

Spend the time to research and learn how to use ATR, very powerful tool. If you're not ok with that, a pro tune. There's really no other answer.

what all values should I choose to log? I might get out and try

It depends on your mods.
If you are stock choose stage 1 (if you have an intercooler stage 1+) if you have downpipes stage 2 ( if you have an intercooler stage 2+) You have 3 options for each map drive , sport and aggressive. Start with sport and choose whether you want a more aggressive map or a more conservative one. ST is stock throttle, power delivery similar to stock ( 40% gas pedal = 80% output) LT is a much smoother power delivery ( 40% gas pedal = 40% output)
