Flat roof glass skylight - any recommendations?

Hey guys

We are having an extension and are putting a skylight in the roof.

Looking at a 1m x 2m rectangular one for our flat roof.

I've been quoted £769+VAT by a guy who's supplying me with the bi fold doors.

I've had a look on the net but can't find cheaper than this - anyone have any recommendations on where I might be able to find a cheaper one?

My builder will fit it..so no need for fitting

Thanks!

to see what's available (ideas) have a look at http://www.velux.co.uk/products/flat-roof.

Make sure the window has heat, light and noise insulation to meet your needs.

A domed window helps it keep clear of snow (snow can be heavy).

you might regret "cheap". Ask for references and follow them up.

Hi Mate

Thanks for your message - safety aspects and noise insulation ill definitely be looked into.

Will not be compromising on the safety or functional asoect of the skylight - just wondered if anyone knows a supplier than can get one cheaper than the price I was quoted.

We all like a good deal

Thanks

You haven't said where you live? We had an extension done recently, and from memory such things have to be fitted by the supplier in order to get the FENSA certifcate and warranty - hence, knowing where abouts you are in the country would help.

We used some good guys for ours, but that isn't going to help you if you're in Lancashire or something!

Ah ok.

Speak to Jas or Paul at EMU Windows (Uxbridge) 01895 200010

They do good stuff, and their installers are very good/careful. They did all our windows, doors and the same kind of skylight you are after.

You can say Russell gave you their details - as they don't advertise, so like to know how people get to know of them.

Are you sure you want a roof window? You're having bi-folding doors which presumably are tall and wide. If you're aspect is south facing you'll be getting plenty of daylight just from the doors, the roof window could be overkill and potentially lead to issues with leaking over time.

I recently had bifold and velux skylight windows fitted. I prefer having the roof windows, albeit in a pitched roof, than not, even with the bi-folds. The only thing I would say is think about where you might have a TV, if one is going in that room, as the skylight can reflect off it. Also, our Velux ones open and flip over almost 180', and as such, they are easy to clean on both sides without going on the roof.
