My guess is looking at most of the high power logs I've seen, there is a clear sign of pre ignition. The event takes place before knock occurs. This is normally the case with 700+ and seeing what people's 5992's look like. Although the plugs are fine up to 650ish they are not a good solution for 700+. These are still hot plugs. Luckily our injectors spray then which keep them cool to a point. There is enough ngk 4786's out there now we should hopefully see a trend in the right direction without knock table adjustments

While I am nowhere near the level of a ST or even aftermarket twin set up, my OEM Bosch plugs looked great after 17k miles with no signs of preingition or detonation despite having this rogue Cyl 5 that would drop a lot at times. Just changed to NGK 5992s. Coil was fine, injector fine. No improvement with VANOS changes. But using the slightly modified knock tables things seemed to have improved a lot. I guess I will know if it was the wrong move if things ever go Kaboom, lol.
