'07 E92 328i, a little confused as to if I can use a Y-Cable or not + other Q
Hey guys. So I have a 2007 E92 328i, with what I believe is the HiFi audio system (can see pics to confirm if HiFi or not), but the inside of my center console is a little different than some others: It lacks a USB port (but has the AUX port).
So that leads me to my main question: Can I still get a Y cable (I have a car charger with 2 USB ports, see pics) and be able to control my music via the steering wheel/normal audio interface? Or would the USB port have to be already built into the car? Any ways to get this done if not possible on my current set up? I already checked BavSound and they couldn't do iPhone integration on my MY, but I'm not sure if this applies to all setups/installations. This also leads me to another question. I've connected my phone to the car via bluetooth and can't figure out how to control my music with the bluetooth. Can I just not do that on this MY's bluetooth? Thanks!

On a 07 BMW
The bluetooth is for phone only . If you do not have a USB port built in to the car the Y cable is useless to you. The way it works it the control and song info comes in on the car USB port an the music still comes in on the Aux. If you want to add the OEM Bmw USB option you will need a mulf 2 high module and the associated harnesses plus programming. This still won't get you streaming bluetooth music. BMW didn't have that for an option till somewhere around 2011 . If you have a Navi/idrive its retrofitable with a combox module and associated hardware. Not a go if you have the Pro Radio. If you want to go aftermarket you can get a Dension gateway 500s BT. That will get you USB , ipod , streaming bluetooth music. It works though the cd cassette port also requires some programming. The USB Ports on your car charger are for charging only. If you want find out what all your options that came in your car are run your vin number through one of the free online BMW vin checkers. This is all that I want. I was only asking about the Bluetooth because I was curious. Would I go to a local dealership to have this set up for me? Or could I buy it online and then bring it to a dealership? Just a little confused as to how I should go about this.

The dealership could do an ipod retrofit.
The dealership could do an ipod retrofit.
But I don't know if that includes USB. I would inquire at Bimmertech about a 6fl retrofit. 6fl is USB if you want to go the oem route. Some people that are handy with retrofits buy a used module on ebay and code it in with coding setup . There are also quite a few streaming bluetooth music adapters that work through the aux port . there quality can vary widly you don't get steering wheel controls but they are not really expensive either. 30 to 200 dollar range. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...&highlight=Dac Last edited by ctuna; 07-26-2015 at 03:37 AM.. |
