Timing chains on the back also means the vanos on the back. Sounds like a maintenance nightmare.

Wow another good point. Let's just hope they nail the design and its rock-solid reliable (I doubt it....) Or this thing will be a time-bomb for those who intend to keep/buy cars with higher mileage. (Poor folk like me...)

I was looking into buying a B7? Audi S4 with that marvelous 4.2L V8. That is, until I learned that timing chain guides were mounted on the back of the engine, were prone to fail, and could run up to $10k to repair.... And this is on a car worth, you guessed it, $10k...

I'm really surprised BMW is going down this same road too...
