N52 Preventative Maintenance
Forgive me for not doing a thorough search.
I have a 2007 328i with 87k miles. Since I've been getting closer to the 100k mark, I've been trying to do all the preventative maintenance I can so I have no worries in the near future and can focus more on the modifications I want to do. So this is what I've done so far this year (within the last 5-10k miles) -New plugs -New oil filter housing gasket -New oil pan gasket -New valve cover gasket -Coolant flush -Tranny flush -Diff flush Last year the front brakes were done along with a brake flush. I have the "car on lift" scheduled service coming up on my computer but I feel like I've probably have done a lot of the maintenance that it requires. Should I get the water pump done? What else should I look at getting done in the near future??? TL;DR: N52 with 87K miles, look at maintenance bullets above, what else should be done in near future

If none of the gaskets are currently leaking, why buy trouble and change them? IMO, if you change all three, you likely will have a leaking one afterwards. The oil pan gasket is hard to do, in any case.
Plugs and flushes, yeah. Some people advocate not actually flushing the tranny, as they believe it re-introduces particles that were previously stuck to internal surfaces. |

car on lift is probably just an inspection. Mine had that on and they told me that is what it was...99 dollar inspection and they found a leaking valve cover gasket--completed that repair under CPO which is about to expire so I was glad I did it.
confession: real reason I did the inspection was because I unplugged one of the seats while working on a subwoofer issue and needed the airbag light reset anyway....but it all worked out for the best. |

I've got a few miles on my N52. I DIY everything. So I think I can speak to the maintenance schedule.
You are approaching 90,000 miles so your maintenance item could be the 30,000-mile inspection. You can toggle through the service menu and find out. You've not mentioned replacing the engine air filter (every 45,000 - 50,000 miles), or the cabin air filter (the CBS will tell you this one). Could be just an oil change. At 87,000 miles you've got a long life still in the car, I've got a few miles more than you do, so I can attest it'll go a bit farther... For the water pump, get a BMW scan tool and scan the car every few months. The water pump fails slowly, throwing fault codes only readable by a BMW scan tool (i.e. not OBD II). Once you get the code(s) then replace the pump.

A manual transmission can be set to "comfort", "sport", and "track" modes simply by the technique and speed at which you shift it; it doesn't need "modes", modes are for manumatics that try to behave like a real 3-pedal manual transmission. If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

The oil does need to be done but the service menu still says it has 10k miles but I wont ever go the full cycle it says I can go. But yeah I hear these engines are pretty tough so it's good to know I shouldn't have any major troubles with it.

On my E46 everyone says you should change the valve cover gasket around 60-70,000 miles "because they start leaking at that time". So around 70,000 miles I removed my non leaking valve cover gasket and found it still soft and pliable. "Why am I changing this?" I thought.
At 120,000 miles later that gasket I changed way back when is still nice and dry. Leave it alone... |

I'd consider a new water pump and t-stat. If you go that route you might consider replacing some of the hoses, too. When I did my wp and t-stat, hoses started leaking and ended up costing me a lot more money than if I would have done them with the original repair.
