3 injectors are bad, dealer will only replace all 6?!

So my '09 335i has three bad injectors. When I bought it, the previous owner had just purchased a $4k aftermarket warranty. The warranty company will cover most of the cost to replace the bad ones (at aftermarket price of course), but the dealer says they must replace all 6 since they're old.

Anyone run into this before? Not really looking to spend $1400 out of pocket today.

Garage List
I've heard people say you need to do them in banks of 3 and I've heard people say you can do them one by one. I don't think there's a definitive answer, I think they're pulling your leg trying to say they need to do all 6. Heck, for the N54 injector recall, sometimes they only replaced like 2, 3 or 4 out of the 6. Replacing 3 shouldn't be an issue.

You can do all 6 for yourself around $700.

That's 6 injectors from rock auto, inpa cable and you'll have to code them, there's a you tube vid for that.

It's almost as if they're holding you car for ransom if you don't do 6?
Why can't they just do one bank of three and you take over from there on the other 3?

BMW came out with a SIB saying if replacing injectors with index 11 or higher, all injectors must be index 11 for compatibility.

They are just doing what they are told from bmw even though its borderline BS.

Replacing all 6 injectors is standard practice by BMW dealerships. I was given an estimate of $2,700 for the whole job. The injectors along with the required "things" (I can't remember what they're called) were $1,200 on line. Then, you still have to code them as others have said.

I've got the cable and have INPA. The newer style injectors are $219/ea from bmwmercedesparts.com (factory parts).

I can understand the appeal of just replacing them all as a matter of convenience, and that's fine if BMW is picking up the tab. But in this case they're not...it's my worthless aftermarket insurance company (Warranty Direct). They are unwilling to replace "good" parts.

So...since the car is covered until 2017, I'd just like to have the bad bank replaced and wait for the others to fail at some point in the future.

Perhaps not all 3 bad injectors are in the same bank... Requiring that all 6 be replaced.

Buy all 6 from rock auto and Diy.

So even though BMW is saying the fix for the issues you are having is replacing all 6 injectors, the warranty company won't pay?

You could see if an indy shop would do the 3 for you that your warranty would pay for, then do the other 3 yourself. Or see if the indy shop would give you a decent price on just paying for the other 3 out of pocket. Maybe see if you could give them the parts. Rockauto has the best price on them right now. The site doesn't say they're the BMW part, but they are.

Can you cancel your warranty and get the pro-rated amount left on the warranty back in your pocket?

If so maybe threaten the warranty company with this to see if they'll pay for all 6, if they're going to be difficult like this there's no sense in keeping them anyways.

Maybe you can buy the 3 injectors out of pocket from another dealership like tischer at getbmwparts.com. Or use your 15% discount from being a BMW cca member to Buy 3 injectors and 3 decouples for about $600. Then, since they already have the car torn down for the other 3 injectors, and the warranty co is paying for the tear down, it's an extra 15 min of labor to install the remaining 3 injectors. So, you can pay them for that extra 15 min at whatever their hourly rate is. They also need to program the additional 3 injectors, which is an additional 30 seconds of labor, if they get picky.

They are trying to get paid twice on the same labor.

Just replace bad 3 and let them pay for it, and if you DIY get them from rockauto, as packaging is different but injectors are exactly the same. I did buy mine from the dealership, and my bro buy from rokcauto. There is no difference, same exact parts just a different box. Ask Warranty how much will they cover if you DIY? Just parts or labor too as injectors are very easy DIY.

If you have aftermarket warranty you should find yourself a good euro indy. My warranty company usually covers more on an indy bc of the lower hourly rate.

I know...but I'm a DIY'er and the dealer is 5 min from my front door. Closest indy is over 30 min and doesn't provide a loaner.

On a related note, are the replacement injectors expected to last the remainder of the car's life, or just another 50-60k miles?

Good question, my original ones lasted to about 100k, so hopefully new ones will last just as long.

It is always recommended that you change all at one. That being said you can change the bad ones only, just make sure to get the injectors coded

I recently had all six injectors and plugs covered under CPO, but misfire faults showed up only in 2, 4, 5, 6.

Gotta say though, car idles like a champ now, and i seem to be getting much better fuel economy.
