ABS warning light- fault codes

Hi All, just checked for fault codes via the BC stalk and got cc-50 but for a split second before the cc-50 appears a cc-236 is visible, I know what these codes are but is it likely its just a speed sensor. My local indy have scanned the car and never mentioned about any codes relating to this issue, just basically wanted to change the back two reluctor rings and possibly a sensor  thing is when starting the car i get the usual lights (handbrake, traction control lights) but the speedo doesn't read( This has only just started happening) till the ABS warning flashes up and the handbrake light light turns red, previously until the speedo stopped reading any speed the speedo needle just used to bounce slighty until the handbrake light turned red then it would settle down and read normally. Hope I explained this clear enough

so should I try a speed sensor before spending £300 getting the rings changed? :|
