Plastidip Bumper... Any Objections?
Hi all,
I've noticed recently that the paint is starting to chip on my 2007 E92 bumper, and pretty bad at that. Definitely noticeable. Local paint shop said a sand and repaint would be $600 for the bumper. I'm looking at other solutions, and was wondering if anyone has tried liquid wrapping? The only thing I'm concerned about is the difference of the gloss black paint and gloss black spray. Will it be easily noticeable? Note that the rest of the car isn't metallic, it had a normal black gloss paint job a couple years back when I didn't own the car. Longevity isn't a big deal to me... I would be happy to pay $125 to have it sprayed and have to redo it again in a year or two, still would be better than shelling out $600.

i recently dipped my grill and chrome trim, it definitely sticks to any surface you put it on, as long as you let it cure. Those chips in your bumper will still show but not nearly as much, as for the gloss i have yet to try it but being in the painting profession, if you put a couple nice even coats of gloss in shade (also not too cold outside otherwise it will frost on you) then i believe it will be decently close to your body sheen.
On a side note i'm not sure what gloss spray you were looking at but they do have a Plasti Dip gloss spray that might work better than a conventional gloss spray but again i'm not completely familiar with it. |

It's not going to match at all especially if you use plastidip. Nothing without a clear coat is going to come close to factory paint or any paint with clear in it metallic or not. They make spray paint that matches most OEM paint codes and it will be closer but still not great. If you're really looking to save money, do that, it might be ok from a distance.

Plasti dipping the bumper will not match. Your car will however look like a race car... you can plasti dip anything, even the side walls of a jeep tire

Do yourself a favor and properly paint the bumper. There are shops that will paint for $250-350. Jet black is an easy color to match. Don't be that guy with a neglected BMW. If you can't find a place for that price just save up a month or two and then paint it.

be careful with plastidip. I personally would never put it on a glossy surface of my car
I sprayed the hood of my old nissan with plastidip and I have spent the last week trying to get all of it off haha i would just find a different paint shop that can do it the job for a more reasonable price |
