Electrically assisted steering

I have the electric steering on my new to me e92 330d

My old boy has the pump on his 335d and i had the pump on my old 320d

I am slightly worried about it though as my brother has the electronic steering on his 325d and it needed replacing at 55k miles (under warranty by bmw but they changed the steering rack) at a cost of thousands.

I do not fancy a bill like that if mine were to go bust. How common are failures on this electric steering. Im on 83k at the minute. Hopefully im out of the danger zone and have a good one 😳

Cheers

I believe it's not so much the mileage but the year. I had a 2005 BMw that needed a new rack and electric motor. I'm not sure when the problem was resolved. Recent cars don't appear to suffer the problem.

Agreed, at 83K it looks like you have a good one.

Have you not considered taking out BMW's extended warranty?

Agree asked for the age of the car as I wasn't sure what we were dealing with but concur steering issues are fairly rare

I've got an 08 N47 with EPS and my rack makes a strange clicking when turning the wheel right at low speeds and stationary, not rotational with the wheels but more rotation when turning the steering wheel itself, going to be taking out a BWM warranty very soon to hopefully get it sorted, along with a couple other things, car is on 74,000 miles and has done it since around 60-65,000
