USB into Armrest
Ok, so having some issues getting my new headunit's USB working.
i have a late model LCI headunit with the USB connection on the back, and it has the USB menu option, so i presume its already active. I purchased this cable: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-CIC-Na...item3ce0162f06 and have the same socket as pictured here: my issue is that it isn't working. any ideas? is that cable no good? I've tried a phone in the socket to see if its getting any power, and nothing. i tested the Aux port on the socket and that's working. |

I am having a similar issue. I plugged in the genuine Apple cable into the USB and my iPhone thinking I could play music via the USB option instead of messing about with AUX, with no joy.
I however didn't buy a seperate cable to try? Will keep an eye on this thread mate... |

I've done this retrofit a while ago and had no issues. HU coded and bought the cables from the stealers. If I remember right though aren't there two different types. Isn't one type only for updating the CIC and goes in the glove box?

From my understanding, to use an iPod you need the BMW Y cable which plugs into the USB port AND aux port. This is because sound goes via the aux and track info via USB.

I was trying with a USB stick (FAT32 formatted) with .mp3 files. head unit just says "insert USB" when you press the USB buttons.
I tried a phone just to see if there was any power coming from the USB port, not to play music |

Correct. Buy a genuine bmw Y cable... as the cheap copies don't always work.

Sorry to hijack but my question is directly related:
I have a 2010 LCI model with CIC and all that. I have a USB port in my glovebox to transfer songs, but in my armrest I only have an AUX port and 12v socket - no USB socket. How can I connect an iPod to this system properly? I find it odd that I only have the AUX in there but no USB... Thanks

I'm not after iPod connectivity, I will be using a USB stick.
Fingers crossed the new cable sorts the issue, if it's not the wrong cable, anyone have an idea what it could be? |

You have a professional radio with Usb built in... the usb socket - is this connected to the radio.... ie is there a wire coming from the usb part of the socket? I don't know why you need another wire? |

Hes retrofitted the 2011 spec radio to a 2005 car.
There was no factory wiring for the USB, he bought a port and a cable from ebay and connected it up, but it didnt work. The wire he bought wasnt the right one though, and needed hacked about to make it fit, so we're hoping this second one we've ordered from the BMW dealer will be the correct part. |
