MHD Stage 1 93 vs DINAN Stg 2
Finally ditched the DINAN stage 2 tune. I wanted to wait until I got downpipes to get it removed and move to e30 tune but the car hated the DINAN and I was a little fed up with the way it had been running. Everyone - including reputable tuning companies - said to ditch it and the car was having the oscillation issue which I assumed was tune-related so I decided to jump on the MHD bandwagon. The tune was excellent to install, very user friendly (once Google let me download the flasher module and tune)
First impressions: lower boost than the DINAN, doesn't pull as hard. Boost comes on a bit slower and the car felt more "snappy" with DINAN. No more oscillation issue, though. Now it seems like to me (correct me if I'm wrong) I technically upgraded to a newer and more advanced tune/tuner but downgraded at the same time to a less aggressive/more conservative tune. My dilemma: the car seems to run way better right now with the 93 stage 1 tune. (I don't have DPs or FMIC so I can't run anything more than that) but I miss the way the car felt with DINAN when it wasn't having its oscillation problems, as they did randomly disappear. Should I stick with MHD and just get FMIC and DPs and run 93 stage 2 tune? I was told that any DINAN dealer would reflash my car back to DINAN but idk if I wanna give up on MHD just yet. Thoughts and advice appreciated ![]()

the maps are still in beta i believe & v4 map had slightly more boost if I'm not mistaken but v5 has improved spooling.
MHD is consistent with their updates. I'm on stage 1 93 octane. just ordered an ER charge pipe. going meth injection route in couple of months then will switch to + FMIC map I'm sure if you stick around you'll see plenty of updates, besides tune costs fraction of the dinan price lol maybe when you do upgrade definitely check stage 2 out...you are comparing stage 1 MHD with stage 2 dinan..better to compare on equal fields. |

Reach out to Wedge, Spxxx or someone who can tune it to your liking. This is the problem with people being advised to arbitrarily switch if pleased and only plan on using OTS tunes (not you, you weren't happy). Easily fixable with custom tuning (unlike the Dinan).

Don't rely on the base maps. Get yourself a custom tune from wedge or any other tuners. That'd what MHD is all about.

Also will DINAN flash my car back? I might do that for the time being.. or did I just lose that chance by erasing it lol |

DINAN will always flash your car back regardless. But, Stage 1 vs a Stage 2 DINAN is not apples to apples. Even the Stage 1 FMIC will be a better option vs the lower boost Stage 1. Won't cost you anything also because it's included with the Stage 1 maps. You should try the Stage 1 FMIC v5. I think you'll like it much better. If you really want apples to apples, purchase the Stage 2. The Stage 2 v5 should out perform the DINAN tune. $ for $ it's a small investment to do your comparison considering the DINAN tune wasn't happy on your car to begin with.

Would it be harmful to flash the stage 1 FMIC map and do a couple pulls even though I don't have a FMIC? Just to see the difference? I also don't mind buying the stage 2 maps either.. Just annoying how DINAN doesn't require fmic or dps to run their stage 2 but MHD does. Wish I could run a more aggressive tune other than DINAN without having to buy those parts |

You'll be fine running the Stage 1 FMIC without an upgraded FMIC, but in multi gear pulls, you could experience heat soak which will cause power drops due to timing pull. |

Okay awesome. Is there a big difference between the tunes? and that's about as high as I can go without upgrading my car any further right? Like I can't try a stage 2 map

Those will make a dramatic difference right there. Then if you run e30 it's going to be crazy fast. I never ran MHD but when I went with Cobb e30 with full bolt ons it's the fastest it's ever been. I'm working on getting a tune which will unleash more power. Just get a custom tune now and retune later. It's free unless go change fuels it's 25 bucks thru wedge

well the tune that comes with the MHD is an e40 tune. My friend switched. I have logs of his car from the cobb e30 and the MHD e40 but i can't figure out how to upload the logs off his phone.

Overall, to me, MHD is the future of tuning. I am actually glad I waited to get into aftermarket tunes. Almost got a Cobb (nothing against Cobb, they make a fine product) but someone on the forum recommended I check out MHD. Was an easy choice...significantly less cost and no proprietary hardware. Oh, and excellent performance(the software interface and the tunes) as well a responsive vendor and tuner who are actively updating the product. And No, Martial and Wedge didn't pay me to say those things... ![]()

Short answer: we'll see! Getting a stage 2 LPFP from Fuel-It is on my list when this orginal LPFP fails...

Actually catless down pipes is the best first power mod, intercooler is just for more consistent runs.

Right now I am running a cobb aggressive stage 1 map. I like the stage 1 aggressive better then the stage 1 MHD, but I like mhd stage 1 + fmic better then the stage 1 + FMIC from cobb. My favorite tune is the e40 tune from MHD that a friend is running in his 135i. Night and day difference. I just want DPS and FMIC asap!!

So in daily driver types of usage where it's mostly light throttle application with occasional short one or two gears type of hard acceleration, a stock car should be able to handle the stock + FMIC maps? I should give it a try.

Yes, FMIC is a recommendation and not a requirement.
