Trans Failsafe after switching MHD Maps
On Friday after work, I decided to flash back to stage 1 V4 from V5.1 to see how my E20 mix did on the more aggressive tune. So I walked up to the parking lot and drove it probably a quarter of a mile back to my work to show a coworker how to use it (front half of building under construction so some us park in a different lot). After flashing, it ran fine, but then I put it in DS and instead of S1 like normal, (E60 535xi with E60 sport automatic trans flash) it showed S3. Drove it through parking lot and cog of death showed it's face. Reflash V5.1. Same thing. Swapped cables and retried-still failsafe. Tried flashing Stage 1+ 5.3- same thing. Eventually I said F it and started driving on the street and sure enough it down shifted into second and was fine and still is I'm assuming this is my crankshaft position sensor going out but wanted to see if anyone else has experienced it. I only get the Cog of death after flashing though. I've driven it over 120 miles in the past 24 hours since. That's why I'm a little confused. The car threw no fault codes either. Checked for them via ISTA, Launch crp123, easy diag, MHD and BMWhat. Can I send the file I flashed? Anyone else had this happen?

This is common and normal. Mine will start in 3rd and I have to drive about a block before it starts shifting normally.

happens everytime I flash a map and drive off. if I flash and keep it parked for a substantial amount of time, only then will it start off in 1st gear

Wierd. Doesn't happen to me. Only difference may be the fact that I am running the Alpina B3 mod?

Every time after flashing the very firsr gear change is clunky as, not sure why it kind of bangs into gear and then is 100% not sure if related.

Happens every time with Alpina B3 for me. Hasn't cause an issue and corrects after a short drive. I asked about this as well and never heard a reason... guess it's not a big deal.

It says that?! I never do that. After flashing I turn off the ignition for about 10s and then start it up and go.

Yeah I've never done that. Never did it on my E92 either and never had a problem. Didn't happen until last update. Although I reflashed it again to stage 1 5.3 last night and didn't go into failsafe.

It's only happened to me in the last month. I don't recall reading instructions to lock the car for 5 mins, but I did it today and it worked. Must have missed those instructions somewhere... do they pop up at the end of the flash? I can't find them anywhere else.

Is this anything we should be concerned about? Doesn't seem like it.
Like I said earlier, I couldn't find any instructions about locking the car for 5 mins after a flash. If it's buried within a 100 page thread I'll have a team of interns get started on reading ![]()

Another reason I'll never drive an AT. Or, to be more accurate, let an AT drive the car for me.
