Anyone been just to thrash your car around? I heard there's no speed limits?

I took my old DC2 Integra R to the Isle of Man for a weekend years ago. The roads are aweason, and derestricted outside the town. I over took a police car doing 55mph on a striaghtish stretch - Wouldn't dream of doing that here, and people pull over to let you past on the windy bits when they see you coming!!

I'm pretty sure the accident rates are high, the roads are all single carriage-way, twisty, and there's loads of young hot headed lads (as I was at the time), thrashing their cars around. You wouldn't be able to do 150mph, useless you want to go flying off the road, there aren't enough to straight bits.

Not much to do there though apart from driving. The weather is mostly rain, the ferry journey made me sea sick, and if you do have a bad RTA the closest trauma centre is in Liverpool a helicopter ride away. Fun thing to do when your 25, not so appealing when your getting closer to 35

why not just get yourself to a track day?

it will probably be less than the cost of the ferry, and you can hoon till your heart is content without the risk of rounding a corner head on into someone else that thought it would be a good idea to drive like a nutcase on the IOM.

I've been 10 times with motorbikes mountain bikes and the car, the mountain road is fairly safe to let rip other parts of the isle are fine too just stay off the busy roads near Douglas and quite a it of the TT course is built up so take that slow, watch out for tractors and people pulling out of junctions and you should be fine. Go out early in the morning and the roads are empty if you really want to put your foot down.

Sounds like there's not much to do and to be honest i can do the same on local roads.

I guess a trackday is where i should be looking.

By the way, i'm not complaining, but why is there no speed limit?

Take the car over and have a wheeze.

You CAN do 150mph in many places on the Island - just don't expect it to be a straight piece of road!

The Mountain is an awesome bit of road, and getting it right brings a warm glow to your cockles. Getting it wrong is not something to think about.

Get the sun, and the Island can be a very picturesque place - the sandy beaches, the rocky coasline, the mountain scenery. Take a gentle potter up Tholt-y-will, and imagine a full works rally car doing a hundred and god-knows-what up there (Tony Pond was doing in excess of 140 in a TR7/8 back in the 80's).

The Island has never had speed limits - when the rest of the UK went from a derestricted to a blanket 70mph, the Island didn't. They had car tax related to engine size decades ago too. I understand they have a better tax rate too!

Yes, I'm a biker too, so the Island holds many happy memories for me - the first corner I frightened myself on (Cronk-y-Voddy), following the course car opening the roads, so being able to take a line knowing there was nothing coming - the course cars don't hang about, and the drivers know the road, so two-up on a 1000cc Jap iron was stretching my abilities at times.

In a car....To do that you have to be crazy, skilled and bit mental ...Still if a middle aged man in 4 cylinder Subaru can hit 162 mph than it should be no problems for any BMW driver

Not done it in a car - or on a bike. 140 was fast enough for me.

When are you thinking of going? im thinking maybe one more trackday before i sell the car. if soneone goes with me the next 2 weeks then will be awsome!

Where are the best places for track days in similar cars to ours?

I'm not sure yoro. Tbh just thinking out loud at the minute. Right now isn't the best time as i have a 1 week old baby. Plus i want to get my solid subframe bushes and stiffer springs on first. The trackday may have to wait a few months

I like Bedford autodrome, got a mixture of corners and a nice straight. Most importantly the clearance area is nice and wide so you can stop the car in the grass or sand before you hit any barriers.

Congrats being a dad!!! I guess i won't be seeing you for at least 18+ years on the track !!=]
