Halogen LED Angel Eye Upgrade Advice
Hi guys,
Just looking for some advice on upgrading my yellow, OEM angel eyes. From what I can gather the best option seems to be to go for a plug and play "Cree" LED bulb(?) but I am unsure on what power output will be best suited. They appear to come in 20w, 40w, 64w and 80w, and I'm just wondering what people think is the best to go for? I imagine the 20w will be very, very dull especially in daylight, whilst the 80w may bleed too much light and look like a bit of a blob rather than a defined ring? Also I'm considering getting Philips Diamond Vision H7 bulbs to pair up with the new angel eyes, does anyone have any input on those? Seem to be the best option outside of a HID kit. Thanks in advance! |

Two "good" optins when it comes to getting whiter lobeam (H7)
Phillips Whitevision or diamondvision. I believe whitevision is whiter. Osram Cool Blue Intense OR Cool blue hyper Personally I love Osram over Phillips, but thats like choosing BMW over Audi or Mercedes. Its kinda the same thing. Angeleyes are abit niffy.. Your car has halogen lights, but what year is it? Does it say ZKW on the headlight?

Yes, think I will go with the Philips Diamond Vision for the low beams as they are rated at 5000k. My car is a 2011 E90, not sure about ZKW, will have to have a look! This is the sort of thing I've been looking at for the angel eyes, but as I mentioned I'm not sure what power output would be best. These are an example for the 64w ones: http://m.ebay.com/itm/231633197938?_mwBanner=1 80w: http://www.ebay.com/itm/261951506490 Last edited by NathW90; 09-02-2015 at 06:21 AM.. |

I have the Lux angel eyes v2 with diamond vision as low and high beams. The diamond visions are really bright white much more brighter than the angel eyes. I recently swapped out the stock fogs with gp thunder 7500k and they match much perfectly with the diamond vision.

E90 LCI with factory halogen low beam? I'd recommend buying from trusted vendors on here so you know you are getting a good product. Check out the vendor sections here, our most popular is HPB 80W. As you guessed, lower wattage options will have poor performance in the daylight. Also some companies rate each side individually and others rate total output so be sure you are comparing apples to apples.

Hi LuxAngelEyes,
They look great but unfortunately would be pretty pricey in comparison to others I could order locally (UK). http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2619515064...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Do you guys think they look a good choice? |

I have found some (the ones I posted above) with a 128w total, 64w per side and also as powerful as 160w total, 80w per side. Can you go too bright? The 64w ones are made with Cree XTE technology which seems to be well thought of. |

Based on our users experience they were more then pleased with the results. Not to mention we've single handledly tested these lights with HPB's lumen meter (A measure of actual light output) and they actually performed better then some other higher wattage versions, likely due to a more efficient design. So yes, wattage doesn't tell the whole story as quality and efficiency come into play as well. The HPB also use Cree LED's. Last edited by Jeff@TopGearSolutions; 09-02-2015 at 08:54 PM.. |

Wattage that gets thrown around is mostly just for show. Some companies will refer to how many lumens(IE: light) the led chip they use can theoretically throw out at 100% capacity and then compare that lumen amount to how much halogen power you would need to make as much. So 40W will refer to "as bright as a 40W halogen bulb". On my LCI, the angeleyes use H8, so it already has 35w halogen power. Others will tell you the wattage availble on the led chip they use, but not tell you that their solution only uses 75 or 80% of the wattage availble. Some will actually tell you what the power output is, but are forced to use above comparrisons for a laymen to understand what they are on about. Rest assured, You buy from ebay, you get ebay quality, unless a brand name is used. MTEClighting seems to sell alot on ebay for example. I wouldnt do it. But never think that your actually going to get 80w of LED power on a small chipset inside your factory headlight. The damn thing would melt! 80w led at full power requires a huge heatsink or a fan or BOTH! I´m now considering the LUX angeleyes.. Because they will last for as long as I have the car and I can sell them to someone once I decide to sell the car. And Its a matter of safety.. The look good andthey will make sure that old age pensioner coming the other way doesnt turn his reliant across the road right infront of me. BUT when I get them, Im also going to put an amperage meter on the circuit to see what the draw actually is! Take this as an example of what you CAN do. Its 90w LED drivinglight power. Actual draw is 90w or about 7 amps at 12v. (visionX 19" XPR ledbar)

Theoretical lumens, theoretical output compared to a halogen and other oddities and tricky marketing do not help. It's hard for someone who doesn't understand how LED's operate to grasp the concept at times. We often find customers saying to us, 80w!!!? That's too hot won't our wiring melt? Or, you are using fans that must be a bandaid to a poor design. The list goes on and on of misconceptions. I know when we teamed up with HPB our method was not to offer tricky marketing. It's one thing I despise when companies inflate numbers, use tricky marketing or bash the competitor. The HPB solution is fair and honest and priced reasonable. We've had a 99% positive feedback. I would say 100% but you can't please everyone in any industry. If there is one thing that I may remark on, your idea of putting am amperage meter on the circuit to see the draw is pretty moot. You realize that these lights must draw something similar to the stock bulb in order not to error out? You are wasting your time finding out the draw and it's a meaningless number. In order for the lights to be error free they must fall within spec of OEM. Draw wouldn't indicate brightness either. However, if you were measuring lumens compared to draw on a bench, you could find a factor of efficiency. With all that effort, I'd sooner tell you just to pick a proven option and be done. I find it interesting with most folks when it comes to finding conspiracy with LED's and going through all these efforts to take measurements of draw, lumens, wattage, amperage ETC.... they are relativity inexpensive and usually a significant upgrade over stock, isn't that sufficient? |

Thanks for clearing some of my points up. So when you refer to 160W (or 80W per side) what exactly are you referring to? http://www.topgearsolutions.com/hpb-...e-upgrade.html
