Brake Disc Recomendatons
A while back I had some new Padgid disc's & pads put on the daily, the rears warped after 2000 miles so had them swapped but can't remember what for (Mintex rings a bell) but after 6 - 8 weeks they looked like this
I have since painted the hubs but still don't look great with a ring of rust Technically they still work fine so can't see me getting much joy by taking the car back again, so looking to replace them after Looking on eBay I see a couple of brands claiming to be OEM / OEM Quality (ATE, Eicher & TRW) & wonder if any one has experience with them & will the hubs rust?? Or am I best just biting the bullet & going to the Stealer for them?? I must add that the Pagid's on the front are fine & haven't rusted like the rears |

You should have extended your paint right up to the margin between rust and bright metal. Bosch discs are zinc coated, so are lees likely to rust, for what it's worth.

ALL disks rust. They're made from steel, thats just what they do. A few more months and the rust will turn a much darker less noticable color like every other car on the road.
You can get coated ones, and they take a bit longer to rust, but they will still rust. Paint them, or ignore it. |

Don't worry about a little overspray on the face of the disc the pads will remove this very quickly and easily the first time the car is used and the brakes are applied a few time

I've only ever used OEM discs or Pagid ones.
I always paint the edges and "hubs" of them using a smooth zinc etch primer (Including the mating face to the wheel and hub) and I've never had them go rusty on those parts. The braking surface will always go rusty as it's exposed metal.

yeh if you paint them that'll help, but bare steel is always going to corrode.
I spent extra buying fancy-arse zinc coated disks for my old car, and one winter later they looked just like any other old brake disk, with dark rust around the hub and edge of the disk. They just skipped over the "red-rusty" stage pictured above. |

Modern discs do not warp... Well at least very rarely, more than likely they have been fitted incorrectly and now have high spots on the discs.
A few places now skim discs so this may be an option. I had the same with my EBC USR discs, I rushed fitting them, then paid for it, I had them skimmed by porsche in Guildford for £75. Not had an issue since |

I just fitted Zimmerman discs and Akebono pads to the front of my 335i. The discs have an anti-corrosion coting which is supposed to stop them rusting but I guess time will tell.

Anyways back to the original question EBC USR discs and red stuff pads all round on my 335d and I can't complain at all.. Euro car parts are an ebc supplier if you live near the surrey/Hampshire area let me know and I can sort out decent prices (I'm sales manager at euros in Chessington) |

I bought Pagid Discs and pads all around, but front warped within 2500 miles. Replaced with Honeywell discs with Bosch pads and same again (front warped). Third time lucky Bosch discs and pads are fine.
The Pagid warped the worst. For the record, I have never had brakes warp before.... Before any claims of driver error, not that anyone would |
