Thumbs up Take a Look at This Ultra Clean and VERY Rare Porsche Built: MBZ 500E!

Saw the story on Yahoo Motors and followed the link to eBay. WOW.... #gangster Reminds of Miami Vice (80s kid here) I'd so roll this!

Mercedes Benz 500 Series | eBay

1992 Mercedes-Benz 500-Series
Mercedes Benz 500E with 34,000 miles & factory OZ AMG Wheels; Über Rare

Quote:
This is an AMAZING Mercedes 500 E with epicly low mileage. Please feel free to ask additional questions, but bid with confidence that this car is amazing right out of the box.

To give a little history, from 1990 to 1994 Mercedes-Benz sold a high-performance version of the W124 body, the Mercedes-Benz 500 E (W124.036). The 500 E was created in close cooperation with Porsche; each 500 E was hand-built by Porsche, being transported back and forth between the Mercedes plant and Porsche's Rossle-Bau plant in Zuffenhausen, Germany during assembly — taking a full 18 days to complete each model.

Called the "Wolf in Sheep's Clothing" by the press, performance tests of the day yielded impressive results: 0–100 km/h (0–62 mph) times of 5.5 to 6.0 seconds and acceleration through the quarter-mile (0.4 km) in 14.1 seconds at 163 km/h (101 mph). The top speed was redline limited at 6,000 rpm to 260 km/h (~160 mph). Power is routed through an impressive 4-speed automatic while large brakes from the SL series help the sedan stop on a dime. The 500 E/E 500 underwent few significant changes during its three-year production run however the 1992 model year is said to be the best of the breed with the most horsepower for the series and the least government restrictions.

The body has small but noticeable cues of its power and prestige including larger fender flares, aero aids, and other unique bodywork. 1528 of the "super" sports sedans were imported into the USA between late 1991 and late 1994, or roughly 500 cars per year of importation.

This particular "California car" is Black on Black with the uber rare AMG optional OZ wheels of the era. It's a very low miles car with less than 35,000 miles, no body blemishes and no mechanical issues of any kind. The one dark mark is that the car was hit in a parking lot once under the watch of a previous owner. Taking an extreme route through insurance, the car was marked as salvage though it was not only fixable, but driveable from the incident. The good news is that when purchased again it was given an amazing replacement of the entire rear end at the weld points of the actual factory. In other words, the new owner took the back part of another 500 E and welded it together the way the factory would have originally. We had this checked by a third party shop who can give a non-partisan view of the car overall and this issue to an interested buyer.

Badass...I've always like late 80's/early 90's MBZ bodystyles.

Awesome, thanks for sharing.
Back in the day, I've done close to a 100k miles in a E300 d W124, loved that car.

Cool car generally speaking. I have a soft spot for overachiever big sedans.

About this car in particular I'm given to wonder what sort of parking lot incident would require replacing everything aft of the back window to set right.

Absolutely would love to own a 500E/E 500. I, too, have a huge thing for the older Benz's.
